Title: Visiting Professor for History

Department: History and Political Science

Supervisor: Chair of the Department

Status: Full time, Fall semester (September- December 2022), non-tenure track, Benefit eligible

Location: Amherst, NY Campus (not remote)

 

Purpose:

Seeking to hire a visiting non-tenure track faculty member to teach 4 courses in Fall 2022 (contract runs from September 1 to December 31), subject to confirmed enrollment. This position is benefit eligible, with consideration for appointment to continue into Spring 2023.

Minimum Qualifications: PhD preferred; advanced ABD considered.

The successful candidate must have field expertise in either World or American history; position includes either HST105 (World History to 1500) and/or HST220 (American History to 1877); 2 sections of introductory History class eligible for inclusion in first-year Learning Community (such as History & Film), and potential course scheduled in synchronous online format.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experience with "active learning" in both an online and face to face modality
  • Demonstrates analytical and organizational skills necessary to plan, implement and evaluate educational activities to assure compliance with established goals and objectives
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal and communication skills, verbal and written, necessary to interact effectively with all university constituents
  • Strong time management/organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work with students, faculty, staff, and all University administration
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with diverse populations
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching

General Physical Requirements:

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects; desk job with majority of sedentary work sitting roughly 50% or greater of the workday.

 

Working Conditions:

Climate controlled office setting, but some activities/ duties can occur both inside and outside the office setting.

Post-Hire Trainings:

Various trainings assigned upon hire and annually thereafter by the Office of Employee Engagement.

This is a full-time position. Benefits are available the first of the month following the full-time employee's date of hire and include health, dental, vision insurance, and fully paid life insurance. In addition, we offer fully paid long term disability insurance after 3 months of employment. Eligibility for the 403b retirement plan is available to full-time employees upon hire and an 8% employer match after one year of service. Tuition waiver benefits are also available for full-time employees and their qualified dependents.
