Human Resources Officer

 

The George Mason University Libraries is seeking a dynamic, enthusiastic, skillful, collaborative, mission-driven and results-oriented person for the position of Human Resources Officer.

About the Position:

The Human Resources Officer for University Libraries manages all aspects of the human resources and payroll activities at the unit level, including: recruitment/hiring/payroll of all categories of library employees; talent development; diversity and inclusion; organizational development initiatives; employee relations; employee recognition and awards; and associated personnel-related planning. The HR Officer also supports the Dean of Libraries & University Librarian and the Professional Review Committee of Librarian’s Council in reappointment and/or promotion in rank cases during annual cycles, and serves as a resource for library supervisors and managers by assisting in resolving complex, sensitive/confidential personnel issues.

 

Incumbent leads staff assigned to HR/Payroll operations, aligns related diversity/inclusion and organizational development initiatives, and coordinates these with university-level offices, such as Office of the Provost, Office of Human Resources & Payroll, and the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Applicants should bring the following knowledge, skills, and abilities to this position.
  • Master’s degree in a management-related field or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Some (generally minimum of three years) professional-level experience in the Human Resources field (e.g., talent acquisition and management, employee relations, organizational development and learning, etc.);
  • Demonstrated experience in designing, implementing, maintaining, and assessing HR-related support services, both general and specialized/tailored to classes of employees, including: onboarding; talent development; diversity and inclusion; retention efforts; and compensation/classification;
  • Demonstrated project management and coordination abilities and skills, and supervisory experience and skills;
  • Track record of success in planning and implementing initiatives;
  • Demonstrated commitment to serving diverse constituencies of employees, and fostering a collegial, productive, and healthy work environment;
  • Strong commitment to access, diversity and inclusivity, and dedication to the fulfillment of the University Libraries’ Vision, Mission & Values (http://library.gmu.edu/about/mission/);
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills demonstrated by: ability to listen actively; speak and write clearly; and present ideas and information to groups; and
  • Demonstrated skills in effectively and efficiently utilizing university technologies for HR & Payroll functions and for general administrative office program applications.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • ALA-accredited Master’s Degree in Library or Information Science (or equivalent certified foreign degree);
  • Experience in academic libraries or organizations with higher education or cultural-heritage missions; and
  • Experience in organizations with differentiated, multiple categories of employees.

 

Appointment/Benefits/Salary:

12-month Administrative Faculty appointment; health plan options and paid life insurance; several retirement plans, including TIAA-CREF; 24 vacation days and 12 paid holidays; tuition waiver for self. Salary is commensurate with professional experience, with an anticipated appointment salary in the range of the mid- $70s to mid- $80s.
