Position Function

Provide learning and development support for all student athletes, while supporting advising function and other department programming.

Minimum Education

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution by date of employment.

Minimum Experience

At least one year of experience in education or related area.

Minimum Other
  • Superior interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Strong ability to prioritize and manage time effectively.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Software.
  • Ability, and motivation to learn other software.
  • Ability and willingness to be flexible with work schedule with possible nights and weekends required.
Authorization to work in the US

Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

Preferred Education

Master’s degree.

Preferred Experience
  • Experience in peer tutoring and developmental education.
  • Experience with assessment of academic preparedness.
  • Experience working with at-risk students at a collegiate level, preferably in an intercollegiate athletics environment.
Preferred Other
  • Experience with NCAA continuing eligibility.
  • Counseling skills and knowledge of learning styles.
  • Knowledge of Banner, DegreeWorks, and/or GradesFirst.

Job Duty

Design and facilitate training for graduate student staff regarding learning development, identification of strategies to address learning styles and instructional methods.

Develop and implement learning materials that will assist students of different learning styles and abilities.

Coordinate support of assigned student athletes and serve as a referral agent to other University services, including but not limited to Upper Division Advising, Disability Services, the Learning Center, Career Center, and the Counseling Center.

Provide consistent and up to date communication to the Director of SASS and the student athlete’s academic coordinator regarding course progress, skill improvement and accommodation usage if applicable.

Provide individual academic support to assist students in becoming independent learners.

Assist in the NCAA Continuing Eligibility Certification process.

Remain up to date and in strict adherence to all NCAA, MAC and BSU rules. Report any issue or concern to the Director of SASS and/or the Athletics’ Compliance Office. Maintain integrity on all fronts. Attend NCAA Regional Rules every other year, annual BSU Athletic Compliance Training and any other pertinent institutional training.
