Advancement Writer & Communications Officer

BASIC FUNCTION:

The Advancement Writer & Communications Officer supports University Advancement's fundraising priorities by writing and editing content for external communications and presentations, annual fund solicitations, major gift proposals, stewardship letters, impact reports, online alumni and donor content, and campaign related materials. The Advancement Writer & Communications Officer will work closely with Advancement leadership and University Strategic Communications and Public Affairs to ensure that Advancement messaging is targeted and consistent with the values of a Mercy institution.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Foster a collaborative and empowering work environment rooted in Salve Regina's Mercy mission: demonstrate empathic leadership through the positive engagement of Advancement team members and campus partners.
  • Provide writing and editing for external communications that support the goals and objectives of University Advancement.
  • Proactively seek out, identify and develop compelling, timely content for communication with major gift prospects and donors.
  • Working with the Annual Giving staff and in collaboration with University Strategic Communications and Public Affairs, write content for fund raising appeals and multi-channel campaigns.
  • Assist with the curation of branded content for fundraising, engagement, and cultivation. This includes text, graphics, and video for multi-channel use. Oversee maintenance of social and web pages for Advancement.
  • Work with Director of Advancement Communications & Stewardship on the technical build out of crowdfunding campaigns conducted in collaboration with Annual Giving.
  • Support capital fund raising efforts, including working with campaign communications vendors and in the writing of proposals and grant requests.
  • Provide digital content as requested by Advancement leadership for fundraising and engagement purposes.
  • Develop and oversee key communications projects.
  • Partner with University Strategic Communications and Public Affairs on Advancement project messaging and timelines.
  • Manage relationships with digital marketing companies to ensure they are meeting Advancement needs and standards.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

As assigned by the Director of Advancement Communications & Stewardship.

LICENSES, TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:

Valid driver's license required.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

The incumbent is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

Requires occasional nights and/or weekend work.


Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Professional writing experience is required and experience in development and/or grant writing is preferred.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work proactively and independently under tight deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of digital fundraising channels and tools (crowdfunding, website, digital brochures, etc.). This could include GiveCampus, Thru-Text, Facebook, Linked-In, Instagram, Photoshop, Adobe Spark, and video editing software.
  • Strong computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office, Power Point, and other on-line applications is required.
  • Demonstrated organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to collaborate and work within a team.
