The Department of Psychology in the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences at Georgia Southern University has an opening for a visiting instructor position for academic year 2022-2023.

Within this setting, the Department of Psychology offers a Bachelor of Science, Master of Science with concentrations in Experimental Psychology and Behavior Analysis, and an APA-accredited PsyD Program in Clinical Psychology. This position will primarily involve teaching courses on the main campus in Statesboro, Georgia. Current faculty within the Department are engaged in the development of leading teaching techniques and highly innovative research pursuits and are highly collaborative and supportive of each other's teaching, research, and service goals.
Position Description: Reporting to the department chair, the visiting instructor of psychology will teach fifteen credit hours per semester, hold regular office hours, and participate in departmental meetings and activities. This is an academic year appointment for the months of August 2022-May 2023. All visiting positions are non-tenure track appointments, with the possibility of reappointment based on funding availability and satisfactory performance for up to two years. The second year is a terminal year, without exception. The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Required Qualifications:
- Earned master's or doctoral degree in psychology, or a closely
related field with at least 18 graduate semester hours in
psychology, by August 1, 2022.
- Willingness to engage with institutional student success
initiatives.
- Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in
instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and
development.
- Ability to teach some combination of courses in our Research
and Analysis sequence, Drugs and Behavior, Abnormal Psychology,
Cognitive Psychology, Lifespan Developmental Psychology, Principles
of Learning, Physiological Psychology, Social Psychology,
Psychology of Substance Abuse, and Personality Psychology.
Preferred Qualifications: - A minimum of one year of college/university teaching experience
in psychology or related field.
- Experience with the development and delivery of academic
courses in both online and traditional formats.
- Experience teaching courses in mental processes and biological
and evolutionary bases.
- Previous experience teaching one or more of the courses listed
within Required Qualifications.
Conditions of Employment: - Must be authorized to work in the United States for the
duration of employment without assistance from the
institution.
- All work (with limited exceptions such as research and study
abroad and outside activities such as grading and email
correspondence) for Georgia Southern University must be completed
while the employee is physically present in the state of Georgia,
unless specifically authorized by the university for a specific
purpose and limited period of time within current
policy.
- Faculty are expected to contribute to the vibrant university
community by engaging students, participating in events, and
performing other responsibilities on-campus.
- Faculty may be required to teach, conduct research, or perform
service duties on any of the three campuses. Georgia Southern
provides accessible transportation options between campuses.
