ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH PROMOTION
The Department of Health Promotion's mission is to promote and sustain health for all groups by integrating community-engaged public health research, exceptional training of public health leaders, and evidence-based outreached. The Department offers prospective students two MPH degrees – Health Promotion and Maternal and Child Health – and one doctoral program in Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Research. The Department of Health Promotion also offers a certificate in Maternal and Child Health.

The College of Public Health (COPH) at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) seeks outstanding candidates for the position of Chair of the Department of Health Promotion. UNMC seeks an accomplished dynamic, energetic, visionary leader who fosters innovation and collaboration in a shared governance environment.

The Department focuses teaching on pragmatic issues that train future public health leaders to identify and use evidence-based approaches to promote health and, where no evidence exists, trains students to create new evidence through rigorous planning and evaluation to address numerous public health issues, such as social determinants of health, health disparities, health outcomes, maternal and child health, women's health, and disease prevention and control. The Department conducts research that is practical and informed by partnerships with schools, federally qualified health centers, departments of public health, healthcare, and community organizations. The Department goal isn't simply scientific introspection, it is measurable, research-facilitated improvements in public health. To demonstrate the high quality of the research conducted, faculty and students have received grants and contracts from the National Institutes of Health, American Heart Association, the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and multiple local and state organizations and agencies.
