Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University seeks a creative, visionary leader to serve as Assistant Dean for Advising and Student Success, the chief advocate for all Mason Gross students. The Assistant Dean oversees student advising, student life and activities, and professional development opportunities for students, working to support student health and wellness and sustaining an inclusive, welcoming environment at our school. Reporting to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and serving on schoolwide leadership committees, the Assistant Dean represents the school on university committees related to student affairs and the student experience. This position fosters close working relationships with units at Rutgers that directly affect student life, including the Dean of Students, the Office of Financial Aid, CAPS counseling services, Career Exploration and Success, and others. Overseeing a team of Advisors and Student Success Counselors embedded in the Mason Gross departments, the Assistant Dean works closely with the department chairs and faculty to support student retention and success from matriculation through to graduation by considering students’ experiences from a holistic perspective.

The Assistant Dean collaborates with the Advisors and Student Success Counselors to create clear, supportive, streamlined systems for academic and professional advising, registration, and students’ successful completion of their degrees; oversees student affairs and student activities at Mason Gross; coordinates career services to support professional development opportunities; creates and implements a system for tracking alumni career placement and improving placement over time; and builds and maintains relationships with key offices at Rutgers-New Brunswick and across the university to support Mason Gross students’ experience, wellness, and career placement. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to: representing Mason Gross on university committees; maintaining knowledge of relevant university policies; benchmarking practices at Mason Gross against those at other schools and peer institutions; advising and supporting the Dean and the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs on matters related to student affairs, the student experience, and others as appropriate; participating in senior leadership meetings; attending high-visibility events and performances; and maintaining involvement in professional networks of collegiate advisors and student affairs professionals.

Qualifications: A master’s degree in an appropriate field; at least three years of directly related experience demonstrating increasing responsibility in a leadership or managerial role.
