Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Division for University Advancement is responsible for the following primary goals:
1) Coordinate a campus-wide, comprehensive effort to raise philanthropic funds that support the strategic plan and mission of the university.
2) Manage an inclusive alumni engagement program designed to serve and engage nearly 100,000 alumni as ambassadors, advocates and donors.
3) Strengthen and expand UNCW’s donor pipeline through effective discovery, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies.
4) Ensure that external boards ( UNCW Foundation Board, Board of Visitors, Student Aid Association Board, Alumni Association Board of Directors and the Friends of UNCW ) are effective in their mission of supporting UNCW .
The division’s fundraising efforts are enhanced by effective partnerships with the campus community as well as external constituents including alumni, parents, corporations, foundations, volunteers and friends. Development areas include annual giving, leadership annual giving, major gifts, principal gifts, corporate and foundation engagement and planned giving, as well as alumni engagement. Prospect development, events and board management, stewardship, communications and advancement services are support services for the fundraising activities of the division.

Brief Summary of Work for this Position
Does managing a growing brand excite you? Do you have a passion for digital storytelling? If you have an eye for digital design and creative development, you might be the social media communication specialist we are looking for.
Within this role, which is a part of UNCW’s Division for University Advancement, you will oversee the social media operation from strategy and ideation to execution and evaluation – with the team’s help when necessary (no one is an island here!).
You will be directly contributing to the division’s delivery of exceptional content designed to inspire and engage to nearly 100,000 alumni throughout the world. Through your actions, collaborative efforts and data-driven decisions, you will manage all our current social media channels, evaluate new platforms to use, elevate our content and advance the fundraising goals of the division.
The content you create will help to shape our brand as the Seahawk community, both internally and externally, continues to grow.
Among the duties you will perform are:
• Creating and maintaining an active digital content calendar and associated workflows.
• Adapting visual assets to multiple social and digital platforms.
• Managing, writing, editing and proofreading content before publishing, ensuring consistent voice, correct grammar and strategic alignment to the division.
• Supervising all aspects of social media interaction between constituents and the UNCW Alumni Association.
• Tracking constituent and content analytics.
• Remaining up-to-date with content trends, constituent preferences and advancements in technology.
• Serving as a resource and strategic partner to various units across the division and campus.
• Driving participation and attendance in annual giving campaigns and alumni initiatives as well as help to steward donors and celebrate the impact of philanthropy at UNCW .
• Developing toolkits and manuals for alumni board members, social media ambassadors and campus partners for key division activities.
• Continuing to build and maintain trustworthy relationships within the division and with campus communicators across the university.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Preferred education, professional skills and experience
Preferred but not required:
• Non-profit or higher education experience
• Ability to analyze and interpret complex data
• Experience in managing a brand’s social media strategy for LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter
• Proven work experience as a social media manager
• Engage in diplomatic conversations to secure buy-in on proposed strategies
• Video shooting and editing experience
• Podcast experience
• Graphic design experience
