Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Survivor Services, the Survivor Advocate will provide confidential, trauma-informed advocacy, accompaniments, and case management to UW Madison student survivors of sexual assault, dating and domestic violence, sexual harassment, sexual exploitation, and stalking. This position is housed within Mental Health Services, part of the UHS Survivor Services Team, comprised of an Advocacy Team, Mental Health Team, and Medical Team.

Direct Advocacy Services (60%)

-Provides comprehensive advocacy services to student survivors. This may include: assisting survivors through reporting and investigation processes; informing survivors of their rights and options; attending appointments and/or hearing meetings upon request; providing emotional support; assistance with obtaining academic and other accommodations; and providing information and referrals. Advocacy services are provided through drop-in modality and long-term advocacy care management. These services will be provided to any currently enrolled UW-Madison student survivor, whether the crime occurred on or off campus and whether or not the survivor chooses to file a police or university report.
-Serves as member of UHS Survivor Services team, working closely and coordinating care with other care providers in UHS (mental health, gynecology, primary care, psychiatry staff, etc).

-Use an empowerment model to provide clear and timely information so that students can make informed decisions.
-Serves as a resource, referral agent, and support person for student survivors and their support systems.
-Serves as a resource on Title IX, Clery, and UWS Chapter 17 processes and rights, State of Wisconsin victim rights, reporting options, and other services a victim may access on campus or in the community.
-Provides consultation to UW-Madison faculty/staff and/or community members about resources and supports available to student survivors.

Prevention, Outreach, Training, and Campus and Community Partnerships (15%)

-Attends and participates in campus events focused on interpersonal violence and related topics, to serve as a support person for attendees who are in need of emotional support.
-Provides outreach and training, technical assistance, and consultation with members of the university community on issues related to sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, sexual harassment, and stalking dynamics, victim resources, and victim-centered approaches.
-Liaises and works with campus and community partners to assess survivor needs and campus strategies that best address those needs and expand campus utilization of confidential advocates, as assigned.
-Supports prevention efforts in partnership with UHS Violence Prevention staff, as assigned.
-Supports internal efforts at UHS to respond to the needs of survivors.

Administrative Duties (25%)

-Participates in the development and implementation of programs and services related to advocacy on campus.
-Attends staff and workgroup meetings.
-Attends relevant professional development activities.
-Serves on internal and external committees, as assigned.
-As resources allow, represents UHS on the UW-Madison Campus, in the Madison community, and with local, regional, and national professional organizations.
-Maintains accurate and timely documentation for all advocacy interactions and consultations.
-Follows agency policies and procedures consistent with state mental health statutes, ethical guidelines, best practices, HIPAA, and FERPA.
-Reports metrics to grant project team lead monthly in accordance with the grant expectations3) Other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities:

Provides direct service to families and individuals. Responds to referral service, creates and implements action plans, and interacts with clients, families and community contacts. Collaborates with professionals and other community service bodies, provides on-call services, makes referrals, and prepares reports and summaries.
  • 30% Serves as primary resource and referral source for students/clients in dealing with a crisis and/or mental health issues
  • 30% Assesses needs of students/clients and provides or recommends interdisciplinary care
  • 15% Creates, implements, coordinates, and monitors treatment plans to assist students/clients in meeting wellness goals
  • 15% Documents all cases and accurately maintains records of cases discussed
  • 10% Prepares reports based on documented data as needed

Education:

Required
Master's Degree
Will consider a broad range of relevant specialties such as social work, psychology, public health, gender and women's studies or related fields.

Qualifications:

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
-Sexual assault advocacy experience (including volunteer experience) strongly preferred
-Strongly preferred experiences of the candidate include:

-Knowledge of best practices in trauma and sexual assault and relationship violence advocacy.
-Knowledge of issues and dynamics related to sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, sexual harassment, sexual abuse, sexual exploitation, and stalking.
-Experience in an interdisciplinary/multi-sector setting.
-Experience providing trauma-focused advocacy, accompaniments, and/or case management to survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, sexual harassment, sexual abuse, sexual exploitation, and/or stalking.
-Demonstrated understanding of how sexual and relationship violence disproportionately impacts individuals who hold marginalized identities.
-Knowledge of legal guidance and regulations (i.e. Title IX, Clery), specifically as they pertain to victim rights and prevention education efforts.
-Demonstrated attentiveness to intersectionality and health disparities; and a commitment to continued development of cultural competence and anti-racist/anti-oppressive practices.
-Experience in consultation and collaboration with campus and/or community partners.
-Experience educating campus and community partners on issues related to sexual and relationship violence.
-Experience participating in multidisciplinary teams including medical and mental health providers, and/or prevention staff, and/or academic faculty/staff.

Full or Part Time: 80% - 100%

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location. Amount of remote work subject to change based on operational need. Reviewed at least each semester.
