ACADEMIC ADVISING MANAGER & BSN@HOME COORDINATOR

Salary:

Minimum $50,000 ANNUAL (12 months)
Depending on Qualifications
The expected salary this position starts at $50,000. Actual pay will depend on experience and qualifications. Job Summary:

Within the School of Nursing 's Academic Affairs office, the Academic Advising Manager & BSN@Home Coordinator oversees the daily management of programs, services, activities, facilities, policies and/or processes in order to support student success in various areas of student affairs, specifically coordinating the BSN@Home program as well as advises undergraduate students, both pre-nursing and admitted. This role will lead BSN@Home advising, working with students full circle from prospective communications and recruitment to admissions and enrollment, and all the way through the program to gradation. This role will also advise a percentage of our pre-nursing and nursing undergraduate students, working with other advisors on the undergraduate team and under broad, administrative direction with significant responsibility for assigned area(s) of responsibility. This role will respond to inquiries from University departments, educational institutions, the community, and/or external agencies. The role is a member on the advising and student services team, which is deeply passionate about supporting student success and strives to create a community where students, faculty, and staff from all backgrounds, experiences, and abilities can thrive.

Responsibilities:

Engages students in decision making processes and promotes appropriate and responsible choices on academic matters, such as course selection and degree requirements. Maintains appropriate confidentiality, updates student advising records, and contributes to the development of academic advising related programming. Works to ensure students receive accurate, timely, and holistic advising services in support of promoting student success, retention, and program completion. Supervises unit staff and/or manages an advising services portfolio and strives to create a welcoming, equitable, and inclusive work environment.
  • 15% Receives, processes, and responds to academic inquiries according to established policies and procedures
  • 20% Serves as a main point of contact for students and provides information about educational options and academic requirements; assists with identifying and assessing interests, skills, and values to match appropriate field of study/career options, and refers students to appropriate institutional resources
  • 5% Develops and implements academic advising events such as workshops, panel discussions, and guest speakers
  • 5% Maintains confidentiality and accurate student records and processes and responds to academic inquiries according to established institutional and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) policies
  • 20% Supervises unit staff and/or plans, organizes, allocates resources, assesses performance, and leads the operational activities of a function within the advising or academic services portfolio, such as program management and/or curriculum management
  • 5% Maintains expertise with advised curriculum and may assist in developing and recommending exceptions for policy and curriculum
  • 5% Proactively engages students as needed
  • 5% Participates in the campus-wide advising community providing input to leadership regarding the development of advising, recruitment, and co/curricular programs offered by the school/college
  • 20% Supports student services programming including, but not limited to: SOAR programming, study abroad and immersion programs, transfer student coordination, student organizations, students' success efforts, and the Nursing Learning Center.
Tasks:
  • Serve as academic advisor for nursing-interested, pre-nursing, and admitted undergraduate nursing students including support with enrollment, curricular/degree requirements, educational opportunities, and academic policy/regulation interpretation.
  • Provide STEM focused advising for limited enrollment BSN undergraduate degrees including but not limited to out-of-the-classroom learning experiences, academic progress and performance, application preparation, & post application review/reflection.
  • Access and manage student data via the student information system, degree audit software, databases, and other electronic means.
  • Participate in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the academic advising program's goals and objectives.
  • Coordinate, oversee, and implement academic advising for the BSN@Home program providing educational
    counseling to prospective and current students.
  • Coordinate and direct the admissions process for the BSN@Home program. Advise prospective students and others regarding admissions policies and procedures. Attend admissions and recruitment events to connect with prospective BSN@Home students.
  • Work with Director of Advising and Student Services to determine admissibility of BSN@Home applicants based on an evaluation of credentials submitted with application using the admission criteria established by the faculty.
  • Initiate methodology and techniques to collect statistical data for the BSN@Home program and prepare information regarding applications and admissions to the school identifying areas for process improvement and make recommendations.
  • Manage and support the enrollment process and permissions for current BSN@Home students.
  • Recommend and review information, materials, and strategies for BSN@Home recruitment.
  • Serve as UW-Madison BSN@Home advisor liaison with the UW System Statewide Program.
  • Formulate, interpret, and monitor policies and/or major program directions as appropriate on behalf of the faculty.
  • Provide specific and accurate information about curricular requirements and other procedures that pertain to
    academic progress.
  • Maintain communication with faculty regarding the academic needs and concerns of students and serve as a general resource for faculty and staff on advising and student support services.
  • Understand, utilize, and collaborate with campus units and appropriately refer students to academic and learning support resources, as well as mental and physical health resources.
  • Support student services operations for all nursing students including but not limited to SOAR, study abroad and immersion programs, student organizations, and the Nursing Learning Center.

* Three years of experience working in an academic advising (or similar) setting with oversight of student services programming, including preferable experience with admissions
* Ability to work independently and in a team setting to establish and maintain effective working relationships
* Commitment to fostering a respectful, effective, and collegial work environment through a lens of diversity, equity, and inclusion

Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience with advising STEM students
* Proficient with Microsoft Office 365 suite, Google suite, and Student Information System

Work Type:

Part Time: 70% - 100%

This position is expected to be filled at 70% FTE. Position is posted up to 100% FTE to offer flexibility for future growth if needed.

This position may require most work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. The person in this position may request and be considered for a formal remote work agreement based on guidelines set forth by the School of Nursing, and/or may be provided with remote work flexibility as needed and approved by the supervisor.
