Neurocritical Care Program Leader

College/School/Unit: Dell Medical School
Department: Neurology
Posted: Feb 7, 2022
Apply By: Open until filled

Description

The Departments of Neurology and Neurosurgery of the Dell Medical School (DMS) at The University of Texas at Austin, along with their clinical partner, Ascension Seton Healthcare Family, are recruiting a clinician-educator or physician-scientist with significant neurocritical care training and experience to develop and lead the neurocritical care program within the Neurosciences Institute. We seek an innovative clinical and academic leader who will inspire and mentor the program's other team members. The position entails joint faculty appointments in Neurology and Neurosurgery at DMS, with opportunities for teaching and supervision in undergraduate and graduate medical education and for establishing basic, applied, translational, or clinical research programs.

The University of Texas at Austin is one of the nation's leading research universities, and DMS pursues innovation in the redesign of healthcare delivery, excellence in healthcare research, and programs in interdisciplinary and inter-professional education. It is the fifth medical school in The University of Texas System and the first medical school established in nearly five decades by a member of the Association of American Universities, an organization of leading public and private research universities. An extraordinary commitment of resources, both public and private, has already been made to enable the development and success of DMS. The School is partnering closely with the community and regional healthcare providers and payers to provide new models for health promotion, healthcare delivery, and clinical care for the community's underserved population.

The 211-bed DMS teaching hospital, the Dell Seton Medical Center at The University of Texas, opened in May 2017 and includes a Comprehensive Stroke Center and dedicated 15-bed Neuro ICU. DMS and Seton also operate an additional Comprehensive Stroke Center and two Primary Stroke Centers in Austin and surrounding counties. For outpatient care, DMS is developing an innovative, team-focused, multidisciplinary model for providing value-based care. In this model, a full range of clinicians and support staff from multiple disciplines are brought together for patient visits, providing care that is patient-centered, evidence-based, and systematically tracked for quality improvement.

Essential Functions:
  • Serve as a clinical content expert on the Neurocritical Care Services for Dell Medical School and Ascension Texas
  • Lead development of and coordinate the design and implementation of Neurocritical Care services at DSMC

  • Participate in the teaching inpatient and outpatient services related to the neurology and neurosurgery training programs
  • Train and mentor students, residents and fellows on new models of care and clinical practice, and clinical scholarship and research
  • Lead, implement and support research programs in quality and outcomes analysis and clinical trials
  • Develop and foster an atmosphere of scientific and academic inquiry in conjunction with trainees and researchers within a multidisciplinary team
  • Collaborate with other schools in the University and across The University of Texas system on multidisciplinary, value-based care models
  • Actively participate in the respective academic department of the candidate and abide by all required Departmental policies
