Summary:
The Director of Constituent Engagement is responsible for increasing awareness of and participation in the Center for Constitutional Studies (CCS) at Utah Valley University (UVU). Particular attention will be given to the Civic Thought & Leadership Initiative (CTLI) in CCS as well as designated partner organizations including the Gary R. Herbert Institute for Public Policy and the Center for the Study of Ethics and other designated partner organizations at UVU. This position is responsible for strategic constituent engagement and for communications and marketing to identified communities, including publicizing programs, events, and initiatives. Authors and executes constituent engagement communications, outreach plans, collateral, and marketing. Elevates the profile of and participation with CCS, CTLI, and designated partner organizations while reinforcing UVU's brand. Develops academic publications and other outlets to highlight scholarship from academic conference proceedings, UVU faculty and students, and visiting scholars. Experience working with or a basic understanding of civics, constitutionalism, public policy, and/or political issues.

The CCS Director of Constituent Engagement writes and edits impeccable copy for a vast variety of platforms. This position coordinates content generation among CCS and partner organization staff. Researches, outlines, writes, edits, and proofreads materials, including newsletter articles, research briefs, web content, social media posts, press materials, scripts, and awards. Collaborates with the CCS Events Manager for seamless guest event communications and coordinates with UVU's Institutional Advancement Department to deliver high impact donor communications.

Established in September 2011, CCS is a nonpartisan academic institute that promotes the instruction, study, and research of constitutionalism. It employs a multidisciplinary approach to effectively equip a new generation of citizens and leaders with a broad understanding of political thought and economic and political practices critical to the perpetuation of constitutional government, ordered liberty, and the rule of law. During the 2021 Utah legislative session, the Utah Legislature passed House Bill 327, which established CTLI within CCS to “facilitate nonpartisan political discussion and provide civic education and research.”

KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
35% - Directs the outreach efforts via digital, social, and traditional platforms to promote the activities and mission of CCS, CTLI, and designated partner organizations. Directs the publicity of constituent events and initiatives that enable meaningful engagement with community members, donors, alumni, key dignitaries, government officials, and scholars. Manages the brand of CCS, CTLI, and designated partner organizations. Manages marketing and communications vendor relationships and contracts

20% - Responsible for the creation of strategic communications plans and efforts including the creation of materials in support of events, fundraising campaigns, research summaries, web content and the overall outreach of the work of the CCS, CTLI and partner organizations. Uses a variety of platforms, ranging from press releases and print and broadcast channels to web and social media content.

20% - Manages marketing project logistics including collaborating with UVU staff and departments. Ensures compliance with UVU branding policies and style guides. Plans production aspects of all publications produced. Writes and edits (or coordinates the writing of) impeccable copy for a vast variety of platforms.

15% - Coordinates with UVU University Marketing as needed on publications, press releases, University media channels, design, branding, and logo usage.

Required Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree in a related discipline plus three years of staff level experience or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience related to the Summary of Duties totaling eight years.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
KNOWLEDGE
  • Knowledge of constituent engagement communications and marketing strategies and best practices.
  • Comprehensive understanding of traditional and new communications and marketing tools.
  • An affinity for storytelling, and an ability to generate creative ideas, take risks and think big.
  • Knowledge and or experience working on constitutional issues, political thought, public policy, law, history, and economics.



SKILLS
  • Be a proactive self-starter with excellent organizational and project management skills with the ability to adapt to change and meet deadlines.
  • Skills in establishing strategic goals, define objectives, choose courses of action and evaluate outcomes.
  • Skills in articulating systems, policies, procedures and productivity standards to key audiences.

ABILITIES
  • A consistent ability to develop, manage and implement strategic constituent engagement using marketing and communications plans for specific initiatives across a variety of communications channels.
  • Ability to recommend a variety of strategies and tactics for effective engagement with target audiences.
  • Ability to write strategic communication plans and a variety of media materials with limited oversight.
  • Ability to push for creative ideas and embrace diverse trends, skills, specialties and viewpoints.


Preferred Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited institution with a master’s degree in a related discipline plus five years of director level experience or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience related to the Summary of Duties totaling ten years.
