Senior Assistant Director Of Student Financial Services - Counseling

JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for the coordination, management and supervision of the SFS counselors (back end) and operations while ensuring exceptional customer service to a diverse community of students. Oversee back-end processing of federal and institutional verification and packaging to ensure timely award notifications and compliance. Assist the Director of Operations and Compliance in the development of policies and procedures for student aid application review, awarding, and processing. Work closely with other SFS senior staff to maintain accurate and customer centric advisement while maintaining compliance to all regulations. Maintain current on all federal, state and institutional policies. Perform under pressure in a fast-paced, high performance, and collaborative environment.

REPORTS TO: Director of Operations and Compliance

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
  1. Supervise and train back-office counseling staff in the review of student aid applications in regards to federal and institutional verification requirements and awarding policies
  2. Oversee timely and accurate awarding of federal, state and institutional funding. Create and monitor quality assurance reports to ensure compliance to all regulations and policies
  3. Oversee flow and review of document requests to ensure timely and accurate processing
  4. Develop and maintain document tracking codes and student forms in accordance with federal and institutional policies
  5. In conjunction with the Director of Operations and Compliance establish policies and procedures for review of student application data in accordance with federal, state and institutional regulations and policy using industry wide best practices.
  6. Evaluate eligibility for federal, state, institutional and other student assistance. Review tax and other documents to perform federal and institutional verification and confirm eligibility requirements
  7. Process Scholarship error and other reports for accuracy in student awards
  8. Update and maintain training and policy materials for staff and NASFAA Polices and Procedures manual
  9. Update and maintain University's website concerning verification policies and requirements.
  10. Remain current on all federal, state and institutional regulations and policies including those regarding information privacy and security. Attend webinars and other training events
  11. Provide service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible and professional engagement.
  12. Support and act as a resource for SFS staff
  13. Develop, organize and maintain ongoing training opportunities and materials to enhance knowledge of federal, state and institutional policies, procedures and systems.
  14. Manage and maintain paid time off/attendance records.
  15. Assist in general office functions as needed
  16. Perform other job-related duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):
  1. Ability to make independent decisions based on training.
  2. Ability to prioritize workload according to volume, urgency, etc.
  3. Ability to be organized and pay attention to detail.
  4. Ability to work cooperatively with others.
  5. Ability to work effectively in stressful situations.
  6. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  7. Ability to work with high volume in person and telephone contact.
  8. Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and the Internet.

EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Bachelor's Degree and/or 3 - 5 years of current financial aid experience in a fast-paced customer-service oriented higher education environment.

  2. Senior Financial Aid Counselor (Verification).
  3. Financial Aid Administrator of “Edits”.
