About the Opportunity
SUMMARY & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Northeastern University is advancing its next generation of experiential learning. Through the development of a dynamic, personalized experiential learning engine that ensures learning experiences that are guided towards employability, we aim to equip all university learners (inclusive of both for-credit and non-credit settings) with a differentiated and integrative learning experience no matter their learning path, modality, or location.
To execute on this vision, we seek a Technical Specialist who will support the administration of the Learning Management Systems (LMSs) and associated learning technologies. Under the supervision of the Director of Technical Services, the Technical Specialist works closely with members of the academic program staff, learning design staff, Information Technology Services, and associated outside vendors as necessary to ensure appropriate system and process configuration, documentation of procedures and tutorials; to update various knowledge bases; to perform testing and monitor performance; and provide troubleshooting and support for end users. The individual is notified of and expected to respond in a timely manner to off-hour, critical performance issues related to the areas of administration in the LMS and associated learning technologies. Additionally, to ensure the learning experience is world class, the individual, as directed, researches and gains knowledge about emerging e-learning technologies relating to the larger learning technology ecosystem, while troubleshooting, integrating, and supporting a variety of complex software and database applications currently in use.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of a bachelor's degree with at least 2 years of
technical administration and support responsibilities
- Self-starter adept at researching problems and excited to work
through technical challenges
- Extremely organized (able to keep a complicated calendar) and
detail-oriented
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
- Helpful and friendly attitude - must be
customer-oriented
- Must be able to prioritize multiple projects and
workstreams
- Flexible - willing to work on tasks that fall outside their
usual responsibilities
- Experience working in a fast-paced higher education environment
preferred
- Comfortable in supporting a healthy remote / in-person hybrid
workplace culture
Technical skills:
- Advanced computer and browser troubleshooting skills (Mac and
PC)
- Thorough knowledge of Learning Management Systems, preferably
Canvas
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, perform root cause
analysis, and collaborate with vendor support systems and internal
help desks to resolve issues
- Understanding of relational databases and SQL
queries
- Comfortable on the command line
- Strong familiarity with HTML, CSS
- Knowledge of service management and ITIL processes
preferred
- Familiarity with MS365 products including Outlook, SharePoint,
Teams, One Drive preferred
- Familiarity with Cloud Infrastructure and Platform Services
(AWS, Azure, GCP) a plus
- Familiarity with scripting languages (Python, PHP, JavaScript)
a plus
This department is primarily remote. This role is eligible for remote work from alternative locations.
