Under the newly minted division of University Marketing & Communications, the Office of Marketing Communications creates proactive, innovative, and comprehensive marketing, communications and branding strategies that highlight Drexel’s academic strengths and research, while emphasizing the value and potential of the experiential education model. The Office of Marketing Communications works closely with colleges, schools, academic and administrative staff throughout the University to create comprehensive marketing and communications strategies that serve the University’s overarching branding, recruitment and retention goals to meet or exceed the enrollment and revenue objectives. The Office of Marketing Communications defines, protects, and disseminates the Drexel University brand while clearly illustrating its unique value proposition.

Job Summary

The Senior User Experience Designer is responsible for providing University-level strategic UX recommendations for online communications and implementing a seamless online experience across multiple touch points for Enrollment Management and Student Success (Academic Information Systems; Admissions; Drexel Central; Enrollment Analytics; Institutional Research, Assessment and Effectiveness; Steinbright Career Development Center; Student Life; and University Registrar) and other offices across the University with minimal oversight. These touch points include web, mobile, email, social media, broadcast, and more. This person must be able to collaborate with graphic designers, writers, programmers, and stakeholders who may have varying degrees of understanding about how digital media supports their communication needs. This position calls for a creative thinker who has a passion for user-centered design methodologies and for following emerging trends in technology.

This full-time position is currently hybrid: in-office and remote.

Essential Functions
  • Set strategy and provide leadership within Marketing Communications for the development of marketing and creative strategies, with an emphasis on UX and online communications, for all areas of Enrollment Management and Student Success, as well as other general University material as needed.
  • Responsible for the development and maintenance of a significant volume of complex communication materials distributed through a variety of platforms, including websites, web applications, and mobile applications.
  • Collaborate with clients, designers, writers, developers, strategists, and project managers within Marketing Communications as well as with other teams at the University to develop project requirements. Oversee the work of team members assigned to implement project deliverables.
  • Develop site architectures, wireframes, storyboards, prototypes, and any other documents needed to communicate UX requirements. Guide implementations by translating the documentation into appropriate interactive experiences.
  • Review and conduct user research and usability testing, analyze findings, and translate them into actionable recommendations.
  • Develop recommendations based on marketing campaign testing and analytics.
  • Manage consultants, freelancers, and vendors; maintain documentation and train team members.
  • Report on emerging trends in marketing and communication, as well as developments in higher education.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in a related field.
  • Strong design and communication skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (especially Photoshop, Illustrator), HTML/XHTML, CSS, Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience managing others, including consultants, freelancers, or vendors.
  • Practical experience with cross-browser/platform web publishing, including coding/troubleshooting experience with HTML/XHTML, CSS and JavaScript; and graphics creation with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.
  • Understanding of web standards, responsive design, SEO, accessibility, usability, and interaction design.
  • Self-starter with strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work well in a high-performance team environment under deadline pressure, and good interpersonal skills.
