The Employee and Labor Relations (ELR) team is committed to promoting effective, fair, and professional relationships between the university and its employee groups. The ELR team partners with University leadership and supervisors to administer employment strategies which support the University's mission and strategic initiatives.

Employee and Labor Relations is a unit within Human Resources in the Finance and Administration portfolio. Finance and Administration is a vibrant and varied portfolio serving all aspects of campus life. Our employees perform a wide range of functions including offering essential financial tools and support to the university's many departments, providing key resources to employees, and keeping the campus safe, clean, accessible, and beautiful.
Position Summary
The ADA Coordinator & Associate Director of Employee and Labor Relations works collaboratively with others across campus to ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The position oversees the university's accommodation process for applicants/employees with disabilities, and serves as the primary resource for supervisors and administrators on topics such as supporting employment of individuals with disabilities; whether we are on notice of an employee's request for accommodation; and the intersection of work performance/misconduct and obligations under the ADA. The position will work with applicable university stakeholders to implement policies and procedures which ensure the university is meeting its obligations to comply with all federal and state laws related to disability, and which advance disability as a critical component of diversity in the university community.

The ADA Coordinator & Associate Director of Employee & Labor Relations may receive, and work to address, accessibility concerns from employees and/or members of the public, as well as employee requests for religious accommodations and non-disability-related pregnancy accommodations. The position will maintain records regarding the accommodation process, and coordinate the completion of annual Affirmative Action Plans. They may also develop and produce training programs and/or web resources relevant to the ADA and best practices for the inclusion of individuals with disabilities in the workplace for campus audiences. As needed, the role will serve as a resource for colleagues in Employee and Labor Relations or in the Office of Investigation and Civil Rights Compliance on disability-related matters.

This position must have an understanding of and sensitivity to issues faced by individuals from under-served and underrepresented backgrounds. The position also requires an understanding of equal opportunity law, the ability to conduct appropriate fact-finding, and the ability to appropriately apply law and policy to the facts of each individual situation. The ADA Coordinator & Associate Director of Employee and Labor Relations must have the ability to work effectively with administrators, faculty, staff, and students from diverse backgrounds across the institution, and work effectively and appropriately in sensitive situations.

This position is based in Eugene with some level of flexibility including the option to work remotely with frequent commuting to campus. All adjusted work arrangements require supervisor and leadership approval.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Three years of progressively responsible experience relevant to managing the employment provisions of the ADA (such as managing the interactive reasonable accommodation process, or equivalent experience relevant to the analysis and application of complex policies)

  • Demonstrated ability to accurately analyze and apply legal and policy standards to specific situations
  • Effective written communication skills, including the ability to summarize relevant information in clearly written reports
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and maintain detailed records
  • Ability to work with sensitive and/or stressful situations in an effective and appropriate manner, and to handle confidential information appropriately
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from under-served and/or underrepresented populations with understanding and sensitivity to the experiences of individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of campus partners and stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully both independently and collaboratively
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
    Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience managing the employment-related provisions of the ADA for a large, complex organization
  • J.D. or other advanced degree in a related field
  • Experience applying anti-discrimination laws
  • Experience working in or with institutions of higher education
  • Experience developing or presenting training or resources, preferably related to prohibited discrimination/equal opportunity, the accommodations process, inclusion, or related issues
