JOB DESCRIPTION

The Assistant Director for Arts & Sciences Careers is a vital member of the Professional Edge Center team and will be responsible for maximizing student career outcomes through strong relationships and coaching. The Assistant Director will work with students, faculty, staff, alumni, and employers and will equip students through individual appointments, special programming, and networking opportunities. This individual is integral to developing students’ social capital; students will benefit from frequent exposure to professionals and experiences in or beneficial to their chosen field. For students aspiring to attend graduate school, the incumbent will prepare and coach the student through the application process. The Assistant Director will possess strong relationships with employers across the state and be able to create new alliances to expand opportunities for students.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Meet with students in individual appointments, providing coaching and guidance on career-related topics. Participate in campus activities to meet students and encourage 1:1 appointments
  • Work with faculty in Shaheen College of Arts and Sciences to explain Professional Edge Center offerings, to build credibility with individual faculty members, and to offer assistance through events, activities, or classroom presentations
  • Plan and conduct networking or informational activities, events, and/or field trips for students to learn more about career opportunities and employers
  • Network with employers and alumni in the arts and sciences to expand connections and opportunities for students
  • Coordinate with other departments on campus and other coaches within the Professional Edge Center to understand the resources available for students, and refer as appropriate
  • Support activities of the Professional Edge Center, enthusiastically supporting the work of fellow team members, attending events and career fairs, helping with admissions activities, managing large-scale programs, promoting the programming of the other coaches, and generally helping to maintain a positive brand image for the Professional Edge Center
QUALIFICATIONS
  • At least two years of experience working with career coaching at the high school, college, or adult level required
  • industry experience preferred
  • Five to seven years of work experience preferred
  • Bachelor's degree required
