Position Purpose

The Department of Film and Media Studies at Dartmouth College is seeking an Intern for the next academic year. As a post-graduate position for recent college graduates, the Intern will support a range of students and their creative projects in our undergraduate program. Intern’s tasks will include, continuing the expansion of on-site departmental creative support, infrastructure, and ongoing course and student learning support in an inclusive academic environment. The Intern reports to the Department’s A/V Specialist.

  • Knowledge of contemporary media practices and equipment.
  • Ability to be flexible and learn new skills.

  • Excellent Macintosh computer skills (Windows a plus).
  • Ability to work well with a diverse staff, faculty, and student body.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.

Description

Assisting the Department’s A/V Specialist
  • Visual and audio media equipment and production space maintenance/upkeep.
  • Classroom setup.
  • Materials ordering.
  • Equipment inventory and checkout to students.
  • Authorizing and assisting with studio/workspace checkout.

Description

Assisting students
  • In a range of creative production courses in the next academic year as deemed appropriate and necessary by the Department A/V Specialist and the department chair in consultation with course instructors.

Description

Record Keeping
  • Regularly uploading completed student work to F&MS server.
  • Helping prepare and maintaining this archive.
  • Storing and maintaining audiovisual student materials on the departmental Vimeo site.

Description

Screening/Demonstration Coordination
  • Assisting the Departmental A/V Specialist, the Digital Lab manager, and faculty, with coordinating end-of-term screenings and demonstrations of student work at the end of the year, at open houses, and other opportunities for departmental representation.

Description

Surveying production faculty
  • To obtain information necessary for Digital Lab software tutorials and hands-on workshops, and compile them into a schedule/list to be shared among the F&MS staff, the Digital Lab Manager, and the faculty each term;

Additional duties
  • Checking, writing, updating, and compiling active hardware/software tech tutorial documents as needed.
  • Prepare materials for the Department website and media connections as needed.
  • Other departmental technical tasks as needed.
