COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
  • Salary Range: $73,691 -$102,455 (2021/22 Faculty Salary Schedule); teaching experience, other related professional experience, and academic degrees determine salary placement on a schedule that is competitive with other California Community Colleges. Contracted salary is for 177 days per year (August through May) as specified in the All Faculty Association Contract, Article 8. AFA Contract - Articles

    This is a full-time, tenure-track/continuing contract position in the Health Sciences Department at Santa Rosa Junior College, beginning Fall Semester, August 2022. Appointments are contingent upon funding and Board approval.

    HEALTH SCIENCES DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION

    SRJC's Health Sciences Department exists to educate a diverse community of healthcare students and help them become culturally sensitive, competent, caring, ethical, and professional healthcare providers. Health Science Department's vision is to improve health outcomes in the communities by graduating exceptional healthcare providers who are committed to service, leadership, and lifelong learning. The department's strategic goals are to:
    1. Support and promote academic excellence in educating healthcare professionals to meet current and projected workforce needs.
    2. Engage students and spark intellectual curiosity in learner-centered environments by using innovative technologies and modern equipment with progressive and challenging curriculum.
    3. Integrate academic and student support services across the college by responding to student needs as the first priority and demonstrating the department's core values of, learning, academic excellence, sustainability, diversity, community, compassion, and innovation.
    4. Identify and implement responsive instructional practices that increase the learning and success of our diverse students.

    The Health Sciences Department is currently comprised of the following programs: Associate Degree Nursing, Certified Nursing Assistant, Dental Hygiene, Dental Assisting, Dietetic Technician, Health Education, HOPE Program, Nutrition and Dietetics, Certified Dietary Manager, Medical Assisting, and Radiologic Technology.

    SRJC offers courses at two campuses, located in Santa Rosa and Petaluma, as well as multiple satellite locations within the district, including online. While these assignments are for the Santa Rosa campus, please note the district reserves the right of assignment to any location, and that assignments could involve any combination of day or evening classes with weekly mandatory office hours. Instructors assume responsibility for maintaining currency in the field, for updating existing courses and developing new curricula (including courses that serve community needs, such as short, non-credit, or online courses), assisting in the assessment of student learning outcomes, participating in department activities and other college service such as committee work, evaluating colleagues, managing laboratories, and participating in community outreach on behalf of the college.     Essential Functions

    The Instructor/Program Coordinator for the Pharmacy Technician program reports directly to the Dean, Health Sciences Department. The program coordinator will provide administrative oversight of the Pharmacy Technician Program in addition to teaching pharmacy technician courses during the fall, spring, and summer semesters as required by the department. Duties and responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to, the following: classroom, lab, and/or clinical teaching of students, while ensuring program compliance with related laws and ASHP/ACPE accreditation standards; providing support and guidance for students in the Pharmacy Technician Certificate Program, including dual enrolled students, and supporting the mission of Santa Rosa Junior College. Teaching assignments may include day and evening classes, labs and clinical courses as required*. Standard duties expected of all faculty include development and evaluation of curricula, lesson plans, maintaining scheduled office hours, attending department and division meetings, pursuing professional growth activities, and performing other duties consistent with the role of an instructor.

    Manage the Pharmacy Technician program requirements including the organization, administration, continuous review, planning, development, and general effectiveness of the program, including the budget. Additional duties include student recruitment, selection and advising for the program; recruiting, scheduling and evaluating associate faculty based on the AFA Contract; act as liaison between the college and professional, clinical, education organizations and community advisory groups. Assist with ASH/ACPE Accreditation and college related accreditation, program review and evaluation. Coordinate and manage retail/outpatient and hospital externship assignments; act as liaison between the college and clinical facilities. Assist in the coordination of retail and hospital affiliates to maintain and establish contracts. Performance of other related duties as required.

    *All classes will be in-person and dependent on district COVID safety protocols.

    Minimum Qualifications

    REQUIRED:
  • Understanding of, sensitivity to, respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty, and staff.
  • Any Bachelor's degree and two years of professional experience,
  • Any Associate degree and six years of professional experience, OR
  • Any associate degree, and an accredited Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT), and four years of professional experience.
  • Must possess state licensure/registration to practice as a pharmacist or pharmacy technician.
  • If a pharmacy technician, possess and maintain national certification (CPhT)

    PREFERRED:
  • College-level instructional experience (lecture and lab) in Pharmacy/Pharmacy Technology course content.
  • High School-level instructional experience.
  • Experience teaching and working with individuals differing in age, gender, ethnicity, educational, and economic background.
  • Experience delivering pedagogy adaptable to a variety of learning styles including an emphasis on interactive multimedia, internet resources, and hands-on lab experiences.
  • Experience working in community/retail and hospital pharmacy setting or experience working in various pharmacy settings utilizing skills needed in a community and hospital pharmacy setting.
  • Experience with sterile and non-sterile compounding techniques and equipment used in in sterile and non-sterile compounding of pharmaceutical products.
  • Experience with various pharmacy automation/devices and software used in medication dispensing
  • Experience working in aseptic conditions.
  • Experience with externship/program coordination.
  • Ability to encourage students to engage in their own learning and motivate them to develop critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to change systems of teaching delivery to meet differing student needs and able to adapt to change easily.
  • Ability to work closely and cooperatively with faculty, support staff, and as a member of a team of professionals.
  • Demonstrate awareness of how pharmacy careers might be biased by socio-cultural norms and an ability to facilitate difficult conversations on the topic of cultural considerations in the classroom.
  • Demonstrate knowledge with California Board of Pharmacy requirements pertaining to experiential learning (externship)
