Description

The Dell Medical School Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences seeks a Pediatric Pain Psychologist to provide diverse clinical services across varied settings and modalities, including integrated and co-located healthcare venues, tele-mental health, subspecialty pediatric clinics and traditional mental health outpatient clinics.

Purpose

By utilizing a team-based, collaborative care model, the Pediatric Pain Psychologist will serve as an integral service provider contributing meaningful behavioral health interventions to a diverse patient population. The appointed Psychologist will integrate onto an already established Headache Team that will be expanding with intention over time. The Pediatric Pain Psychologist will conduct behavioral and mental health assessments, brief interventions, and interdisciplinary team consultation as needed across relevant outpatient and inpatient milieus within Dell Children's Medical Center.

Essential Functions

The identified psychologist will work within an inter-professional model and routinely collaborate with neurologists, residents, advanced practice providers, medical students, nursing staff, and additional subspecialties to engage in collaborative care, program development and evaluation efforts, provision of training and education in pain and pediatric behavioral health to trainees/staff, and participation in relevant research efforts.

Utilizing a systems-based, biopsychosocial approach to care, the psychologist would address presenting diagnoses including headache and migraine with associated symptomatology including nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light and sound. In addition, demonstrated experience using best practices to address the management of sequential pro-drome, aura, attack, and post-drome sequelae are critical. Related skill sets include demonstrated experience successfully treating concomitant internalizing/externalizing disorders, adjustment to chronic medical illness, emotional dysregulation, parent management of disruptive behaviors, and other developmental disruption common to chronic illness.

The Pediatric Pain Psychologist will join our growing Texas Child Study Center Faculty, which is composed of 14 Psychologists and Masters Clinicians. Engagement in provision of training, supervision, and applicable didactics for psychology interns and fellows as well as participation in clinical research and general program development efforts through the Texas Child Study Center are required. This position includes an academic appointment in the University of Texas at Austin's Dell Medical School along with associated faculty benefits.
