COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT COORDINATOR

Salary:

Minimum $45,000 ANNUAL (12 months)

Job Summary:

In support of the UW Health HIV Care and Prevention Program, the Community Engagement Coordinator will be responsible for planning and coordinating engagement and outreach activities for people living with HIV, people at risk for HIV, and the communities in which they live. The UW Health HIV Care and Prevention Program is funded by federal Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program and HIV Prevention grants. This role will be based in the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH) and will work closely with the UW Health clinical team and program leadership to develop and coordinate services that complement existing clinical care and support services. This position will work under the direction of the HIV Administrative Manager and the HIV Medical Director with additional direction provided by the UW Health HIV Clinic Manager and HIV Program Manager.

Principal duties:

1) Peer Support: Coordinate an established peer support volunteer program for people living with HIV in collaboration with other team members. This work will include the following:
- Cooperate with institutional human resources, administration, and volunteer program staff to ensure new peer mentors are properly vetted and credentialed
- Develop and implement training programs for peer mentors
- Collaborate with staff from UW Health and other agencies on recruiting peer mentors and mentees and on offering peer support services
- Supervise and provide ongoing support for a team of 5-10 peer mentors
- Onboard and link mentees to peer mentors and provide support to both during the mentoring process
- Work with administrative and financial staff to properly budget for, execute, and document all peer support program expenses consistent with University of Wisconsin and grant sponsors' requirements
- Implement continuous quality improvement strategies that strengthen the peer mentor program

2) Client Engagement
- Coordinate and co-facilitate with another staff member a community advisory board for people with HIV to provide input and feedback on HIV services
- Promote and facilitate client engagement in program events and activities, university educational activities, and community events
- Develop and implement client educational content and events
- Manage a newsletter for clients and community members and other external communications on behalf of the program

3) Community Engagement

- Develop and coordinate community outreach events, in collaboration with community members and other agencies, such as events to commemorate World AIDS Day and National HIV Testing Day
- Network with other community agencies and participate in community meetings such as Latino Health Council
- Manage the content on the UW Health website for the HIV program in collaboration with UW Health Marketing

4) Other: Participate in program data collection as required by funding agencies, as well as broader program evaluation activities. Perform other duties as assigned in support of program needs.

Education:

Preferred
Bachelor's Degree
Degree in health education, adult education, social work, public health, nursing or related field is preferred. Equivalent work experience and/or lived experience will be considered.

Qualifications:

Minimum of two years' experience preferred in health education, case management, volunteer management, or health care services required. Bilingual English/Spanish is strongly preferred. Experience working in a clinical health care setting, in HIV-related work, or peer mentoring/support is a plus. Experience with diverse populations, including LGBTQ+, Latinx, Black, and/or young adults is a plus. Excellent verbal and written skills and proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint are required.

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

Additional Information:

Travel is required. Must have own transportation or a valid driver's license and eligibility for car fleet usage if necessary. Overnight travel out of state for continuing education may be appropriate once per year. This position requires work outside normal business hours in the evenings or on weekends approximately 1-3 days per month.

The ability to communicate and work effectively in a wide variety of contexts will also be essential as the work involves planning and coordinating educational activities for people with HIV in collaboration with health care professionals. Strong group facilitation skills, confidentiality, sensitivity, cultural competence, and the ability to meet the needs of a diverse group of volunteers and learners will be key.

This position has been identified as a position of trust with access to vulnerable populations. The selected candidate will be required to pass an initial caregiver check to be eligible for employment under the Wisconsin Caregiver Law and every four years.

Hire will be subject to criminal background check requirements.
