Job Summary:

This position will provide primary research study data collection for a 5-year NIH funded study using smartphones to remotely collect data from participants in opioid addiction treatment programs. The research specialist will be involved in all aspects of the designated research study, with a focus on day-to-day operational infrastructure.

The research specialist will also be supported in pursuing professional development goals related to a career in research and will be expected to attend and participate in lab meetings where we read and discuss academic research. Responsibilities:

Develops, designs, and conducts one or more research projects and organizes daily operation of projects and specialized research areas to ensure work meets established objectives under moderate supervision.
  • 70% Conducts research experiments according to established research protocols with moderate impact to the project(s). Collects data and monitors test results
  • 10% Reviews, analyzes, and interprets data and/or documents results for presentations and/or reporting to internal and external audiences
  • 10% Participates in the development, interpretation, and implementation of research methodology and materials
  • 5% Provides operational guidance on day-to-day activities of unit or program staff and/or student workers
  • 5% Performs literature reviews and writes reports

Education:

Required
Bachelor's Degree
Preferred degrees and specialization areas: Psychology, Neuroscience,
Political Science, Economics, Statistics, Pre-Medicine, Clinical Trials.

Qualifications:

Must have 2 years of part-time or full-time work experience.
Must have fluency with the Windows OS and Microsoft office.
Experience with patient or customer interaction preferred but not required.
Experience documenting procedures, events, or data preferred but not required.
Experience video editing is preferred but not required.
Experience programming in any language is preferred but not required.
Experience with Slack, Asana, R, Qualtrics, or Zotero is preferred but not required.

Previous experience working in addiction treatment, with persons in outpatient mental health, or in behavioral clinical trials is preferred but not required.

A good understanding of psychology research, experience working in a research setting, as well as procedural aspects of data collection from human subjects is preferred but not required.

Additional Information:

Must be able to work independently using initiative and good judgment.
Must have strong problem-solving and trouble-shooting skills.

Must have the ability to identify and communicate about potential areas of weakness or uncertainty.

Must have strong skills in editing: producing documents that have no spelling or grammar errors, use parallel structure, a consistent tone, and are concise and clear and avoid jargon.

Must have strong skills in presenting information clearly and concisely to research participants and collaborators; or experience in professional speaking, phone customer service, or giving business presentations.

Must have strong skills in implementing plans: identifying the steps needed to create systems or procedures, identifying and resolving barriers, and documenting the process.

Previous experience or skills in navigating bureaucratic, IRB, and other formal documentation and permission systems is highly desired.

Previous experience or skill in recordkeeping: inspecting records for inconsistency, consistently entering data, using double-verification to prevent and detect errors is highly desired.

This position works primarily on campus but there are occasional opportunities for remote work.
