Simmons University, an NCAA Division III member of The Great Northeast Athletic Conference is accepting applications for a full-time, 10-month professional position for an Athletic Trainer.

Reporting to the Director of Sports Medicine for day to day operations, with collaborative supervision from the Director of Athletics and Recreation, this position is responsible for assisting with the coordination of the athletic training facilities and all aspects of coordinating the prevention, evaluation, treatment, referral and rehabilitation of injuries/illnesses to student-athletes of 9 varsity sports.

The athletic trainer must have a high attention to detail and be able to organize workflow, coordinate coverage schedules, balance simultaneous projects without loss of efficiency and manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines. This position requires a strong ability to communicate frequently and accurately with team physicians, campus health services, coaches and student athletes.

The athletic trainer will be expected to provide excellent care to student athletes while adhering to all rules and regulations as set forth by Simmons University, the Great Northeast Athletic Conference and the NCAA.

The ideal candidate will serve as an active member of Student Affairs engaging in partnerships with all units across the division. It is expected this candidate will demonstrate exemplary personal conduct, serve as a role model for student athletes, maintain a commitment to excellent customer and/or student service and possess ethical and responsible decision-making.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist the Director of Sports Medicine with the day-to-day operation of the athletic training room; including prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic related injuries, and practice & game coverage.
  • Administer first aid and emergency techniques to injuries.
  • Assist the Director of Sports Medicine in the maintenance of medical records, insurance forms, and other appropriate duties related to administration in the athletic training room.
  • Assist the Director of Sports Medicine in developing and fostering a positive relationship with the coaching staff and student-athletes.
  • Assist the Director of Sports Medicine in developing and maintaining communication with the University Health Center, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and other external healthcare resources.
  • Assist with the planning and implementation to evaluate and modify appropriate strength and conditioning and programs for athletes
  • Collaborate with physicians and other allied health professionals to deliver appropriate care and referrals to student-athletes
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with all administration, coaching, and institutional personnel.
  • Upholds confidentiality for student-athletes and their well-being.
  • Provide Administrative support with inventory maintenance, assist with budget, order and restock supplies
  • Assist with the daily operations and maintenance of the athletic training facilities
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned


REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Athletic Training from a certified accredited athletic training education program (CAATE) required
  • BOC Certification as an Athletic Trainer required
  • Eligibility for MA licensure in Athletic Training required
  • Engage in professional development and continuing education to maintain certification standards
  • 2-5 years of athletic training experience at the college level preferred
  • Knowledge of NCAA regulations
  • Requires afternoon, evening, & weekend hours and 10-25% travel
  • A valid driver's license is required
  • CSCS Certification by the NSCA is preferred, but not required
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff and parents, as well as a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
