Job Summary:

This position in the Department of Economics, a large department in the College of Letters & Science, assumes delegated authority from the Department Administrator to run the day-to-day operations of the academic programs. This position serves as the liaison between the academic programs, which consist of 1,200 undergraduate majors, 200+ masters students & 130+ PhD students, and the Department Administrator and Chair ensuring all needs are served and supported. This position also serves as the PhD Advisor who plans, coordinates and administers advising, teaching assistant assignments and social activities for prospective and current graduate students.

Responsibilities:

Provides leadership and managerial responsibility for one or more academic program(s), ensuring alignment with the university mission. Directs administrative oversight and academic curriculum development, ensuring optimal integration of student and faculty activities. Ensures resource allocation supports the program's primary objectives. Manages a team of professionals who support the program(s).
  • 20% Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
  • 20% Collaborates with faculty members to develop student academic programs and agendas, directs implementation, and creates curricular structure including operational and logistical arrangements
  • 15% Formulates program strategies and goals, directs long-term planning, develops policies and procedures, and establishes and maintains new and emerging program materials
  • 15% Evaluates operations and outcomes to ensure alignment with organizational goals
  • 5% Serves as the principal liaison between the program, University leadership, and outside entities
  • 5% May provide guidance to faculty regarding funding, staffing, and space implications
  • 5% Develops the unit budget and approves unit expenditures
  • 5% Manages student academic program(s)
  • 10% Manages all aspects of department TA process - assigning, training, budget, evaluating & administrating

Education:

Required
Bachelor's Degree

Preferred
Master's Degree in higher education administration or similar field

Qualifications:

3 years experience in higher education student services
2 years supervisory experience
Experience with writing and implementing policies/guidelines for undergraduate, masters and/or PhD programs preferred
High level of attention to accuracy and detail in a fast-paced work environment.
Strong communication skills (written, oral and electronic)
Excellent public speaking skills for large and small audiences.
Ability to interact effectively with students, parents. faculty, staff, campus, colleagues, and prospective students
