Feed Manager

Position Summary:
This position provides feed to the dairy, beef, and sheep units through management and operation of the feed mill operation and production of feed locally under the direct supervision of the Animal Units Operations Manager. This position will oversee production of farm-raised hay and straw, address nutrient management plans by taking soils samples, and making application decisions to the fields of manure and other fertilizers. The Feed Manager will occasionally be asked to provide management relief at the PREEC Dairy and Beef/Sheep Units and assist with other PREEC activities.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science or related field; four additional years of experience managing/feeding livestock (five total) may substitute for a bachelor’s degree.
- One (1) year of experience managing/feeding livestock.
- Experience working with feed mill equipment and preparing diets.
- Experience with computer spreadsheets to establish and maintain a computerized inventory system.
- Experience managing crop land including planting, applications, and harvesting as well as running equipment used to do so.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in the operations of feed mixing with experimental rations, delivery equipment and purchasing of feed supplies.
- Ability to create 3-5 year crop management plan.
- Ability to use word processing programs.
- An appreciation of research techniques and an understanding of the need for accuracy with ration mixing and experimental animal feeding.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
- Ability to lift, carry and/or otherwise move up to 80 lbs.

- Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to successfully pass a driver’s record check.
