Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Director of Human Resources, the HR Coordinator supports the HR office by providing assistance to employees for the benefit programs, including but not limited to: administering leave programs, family medical leave, short/long term disability, assisting with complex benefit issues; and assisting with eligibility. They will review, research and make appropriate corrections to benefit deductions, collaborate with vendors regarding benefit matters, and conduct benefit orientation. They will coordinate with and support Employment Services with regard to leaves of absence, Family and Medical Leave, ADA (Americans with Disabilities), and employee relations case management. This position also provides human resource coordinator services by partnering with internal customers within the University of Idaho. The HR Coordinator will work closely with units and departments to provide support on Human Resources issues including, but not limited to: recruitment and hiring, employee relations and other HR functional areas. This position interprets and applies University procedures, policies and business processes, plans and carries out work independently and timely, and is responsible for coordinating within designated area of subject matter expertise. This position will partner with Human Resources to create cross functional teams in order to create solutions for units and departments.

Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent - Experience in three (3) or more of the following areas: benefits, HIPAA, recruitment, classification, compensation, employee relations, training and development, equal employment and affirmative action, reasonable accommodation, Fair Labor Standards Act.
- Experience interpreting and applying personnel administration practices, equal employment opportunity concepts and legal requirements to explain Federal and State Law, policies and procedures to employees, supervisors and high level leadership in a group or individual setting.
- Experience maintaining confidentiality of sensitive materials.
- Experience analyzing information and researching a variety of sources to identify and resolve problems or issues, and making recommendations for resolutions in a proactive and reactive atmosphere.
- Experience advising a diverse population of employees.
- Experience analyzing complex problems and developing alternatives and recommendations.
- Experience working independently and on a team.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in related field and 1 year of employee benefits/human resources related experience or 5 years of employee benefits/human resources related experience.
- Experience working with a self-funded health plan.
- Knowledge of higher education or state government personnel policies and procedures.
- Experience conducting training and/or making public presentations.
- Human Resource/Benefits experience in a higher education setting.
- Strong customer service, problem-solving, and verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated experience working collegially and collaboratively with diverse internal and external constituencies.
- Understanding of job analysis methods, and/or job classification concepts.
