Job Description Summary

The Videographer will serve to promote the institutional message, brand and story through video production and photography to build institutional reputation, engagement, and stature. Primary responsibilities include collaborating with the Strategic Marketing and Communications staff and other campus departments to craft compelling photos and video.

The duties include, but are not limited to, recording audio and video; operating various types of cameras; setting up and operating lights, tripods, cameras, microphones; utilizing a variety of camera accessories and gear; ingesting footage; updating and maintaining assets on the server and on numerous hard drives; editing projects; and exporting in multiple formats. The position will assist with all phases of studio operations, and will assist and interact with students, faculty, and staff. This position will track projects through various stages of video productions and provide ways to increase efficiency in workflow as a project owner.

Responsibilities

Works in a highly integrated, high performance team environment to create high-quality, effective photography and video. Oversight of all production of university photography and video to include scheduling and setup, editing, correction and preparation, storage and tracking. This includes:
  • Scheduling of assignments and marketing subjects in a timely manner to meet project deadlines
  • Photographs and films in a style that supports and builds on the University brand
  • Photographs and films subjects with a style appropriate for multiple media
  • Provide photo/video coverage of university events and functions, as appropriate, including institutional events throughout the academic year, including some evenings and weekends
  • Ensure legal policies are upheld, including consent gathering and copyright management
  • Provide support to the content team that publishes stories for institutional marketing
  • Manage a library of current and archived assets within the structure of the department’s filing system

Production/post production and pre-production tasks include:
  • Operate various types of cameras for both photography and film; setting up and operating lights, tripods, cameras, microphones; utilizing a variety of camera accessories and gear, including multi-camera studio equipment and video switching
  • Determine which camera equipment is necessary
  • Provide direction to crew on set regarding setup
  • Works with team and stakeholders on set to achieve desired visual style
  • Utilize audio mixing equipment, tweak studio lighting and control the studio mikes for best production
  • Prepare secondary footage for use of productions, such as background footage and b-roll
  • Operate portable equipment and works with equipment in the field as required for the shoot
  • Edit certain projects using Premiere, Bridge and Photoshop · Receive, review, and assemble raw footage after production · Iterate the assembly cut until through final approval
  • Finalize photos and videos as deliverables, including color correction
  • Collaborate with department, team and stakeholders on implementing feedback
  • Export final products and optimize file type and settings for desired destination or delivery (YouTube, DVD, broadcast, print, web, etc.)
  • Maintain photo and video assets on hard drives and on the server
  • Participate in brainstorming and campaign meetings

Assist in and support studio operations, which may include:
  • Set-up of cameras and lighting equipment, assistance moving sets, and assistance with multi-camera shoots
  • Assist with routine camera, video and audio equipment maintenance
  • Transport, set up and operate various production equipment including camera, audio and video recorders, light equipment, props and microphone for locations and studio production

Other Duties
  • Report creative results to internal stakeholders and management teams
  • Stay informed of and make recommendations for implementing new technologies, strategies and designs
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and professional work experience.
  • At least five years of work experience in photography, videography, and editing.
  • Experience with video production processes (pre-production, production, postproduction).
  • Experience scheduling and coordinating resources, locations, and cast
  • A proven and strong visual eye for photography and video conceptualization.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Adobe Premiere, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe After Effects, (as well as other industry standard video and photography software)
  • An advanced understanding of camera and video equipment
  • Technical skills to learn and use enterprise systems and departmental tools.
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively under deadlines
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to use tact and diplomacy and work with confidential information.
  • Must be able to multitask and juggle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to lead individuals and provide feedback to team members.
  • Ability to do best-practice research and apply it to department processes.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work with diversity individuals at all levels both within and out of the University.
  • Ability to learn and interpret university and department policies and procedures.
Desired Qualifications
  • Photoshelter digital asset management experience. Familiarity with Workfront project management system
  • Field and manage photo/video requests from across campus for public lectures, special events, and institutional functions
