Search for the Director of Facilities Management

University of California, Santa Barbara

Santa Barbara, California

The University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) seeks an experienced strategic leader to serve as Director of Facilities Management (FM). Reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Design, Facilities & Safety Services, the Director of Facilities Management (Director) develops, organizes, and provides leadership to a passionate and capable team of senior department managers and staff committed to delivering exceptional customer service to a UCSB community where collaboration and partnerships are highly valued and encouraged. The Director will use their expertise to oversee facility maintenance operations, programs, and services for over four million square feet of state-maintained buildings, equipment, and grounds, and will manage engineering support services and custodial services, as well as grounds maintenance services and landscape development for 260 acres of maintained space.

UCSB is known for its entrepreneurial spirit, culture of collaboration, and impressive slate of interdisciplinary research. UCSB is ranked among the top five public research universities nationally according to U.S. News and World Report. It is situated along the idyllic Santa Barbara and Goleta Coastline; the campus sits on a bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean and is bordered by the Santa Ynez Mountains.

It is an exciting time to be joining UCSB as the institution recently received $35 million for deferred maintenance projects from the State, and the campus has new buildings coming online in the next few years. The Director will prioritize the continued investment in deferred maintenance in the years to come and provide proactive advice around maintenance in the construction of new buildings. The Director will provide visionary and collaborative leadership to invest limited resources wisely and ensure the development and continuous improvement of all maintenance and operations service programs, with the goal of furthering UCSB’s reputation as a world-class, sustainable university. In doing so, the Director will be expected to address the following opportunities and challenges, detailed below:

  • Strategically determine priorities and the appropriate infrastructure in support through short- and long-term planning
  • Maintain and further develop partnerships with key stakeholders across campus through effective communication and transparency
  • Foster a positive work culture to recruit, retain, and empower FM staff
  • Strengthen diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts within FM and university-wide

Screening of complete applications will begin immediately and continue until the completion of the search process. Resumes with cover letters must be submitted through the UCSB job site using the following link:  https://tinyurl.com/4mxdfnye. Inquiries and nominations should be sent via the Isaacson, Miller website: https://www.imsearch.com/8538.
