Job Description

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Regular/contract instructors participate in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs, courses and other experiences that will directly result in the educational growth of the students and support advance of the visions, missions and values of the college and District. This position may include a combination of day and evening assignments, large lectures and small seminars, and is being offered by a college strongly committed to the “open door” concept serving a diverse student population. Instructors will be expected to perform other duties consistent with their faculty job description as stated in the faculty contract.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: APPLICANTS MUST MEET ONE OF THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA:

Master's or Master of Fine Arts in drama/theater arts/ performance

OR

Bachelor's or Bachelor of Fine Arts in drama/theater arts/performance AND Master's in comparative literature, English, communication studies, speech, literature or humanities

OR

the equivalent.

Sensitivity to, understanding of, and ability to motivate students from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, linguistic, differing abilities, gender, and ethnic backgrounds.

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS - Applicants must demonstrate:

Academic preparation for and successful experience teaching at the secondary, community college, or university level, including costume design, Theatre make-up design and application, costume history, general education theatre arts courses, and various costuming construction skills and techniques.

Recent design experience including a portfolio, professional Theatre practices regarding safety and respectful behavior in a collaborative setting, and a variety of costume construction experiences.

Ability to teach an established curriculum, modify an existing curriculum to reflect recent trends in Theatre Arts instruction and training, and to perform a wide variety of tasks associated with the production of theatre, all in concert with the greater Grossmont College community to maintain an integrated program.

Demonstrated ability to prepare and develop online curriculum, and teach in hybrid and online modalities.

Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to achieving equitable outcomes for a diverse student population, including those from historically underrepresented socioeconomic, cultural, educational, linguistic, and ethnic backgrounds.

Knowledge about and experience in student-centered, equity-minded, multi-modal, and culturally responsive teaching and learning techniques that are responsive to the needs of a diverse student population, including those who are first-generation, English learning, varying in age and abilities, and of varying identities.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS - Applicants will also be evaluated for qualifications in the following:

Experience in and comprehension of associated theatre discipline(s) (i.e. Scenery, lighting, sound, technical direction, projections, etc…).

Demonstrated involvement with live theatre production at different levels (professional, university, college and secondary).

Ability to contribute to the mission, vision, and strategic plan of the college.

*Candidates selected for an interview may be required to demonstrate teaching and/or costume production skills as well as perform written assignments as part of the interview process.
