Job Summary

Recreation Services at the University of Colorado Boulder encourages applications for the Aquatics Coordinator position! This professional exempt, full-time position is responsible for assisting in the overall operation of Aquatics Facilities including 3 swimming pools and assist in the supervision of the ice rink student staff. Oversee and work with campus partners in supervising special events in the pool and rink facilities.

The responsibilities include: property (aquatics and ice rink) management, personnel management, budget/forecasting, program creation and management, financial management, internal and external customer relations, and compliance of local, state, and federal regulatory laws and issues pertaining to these areas. Regular organized users of these areas include all program areas: fitness/wellness, outdoor program, intramural sports and club sports.

Experience in aquatic facilities will be required and willing to learn Ice Rink/Arena operations and become familiar with rink equipment and systems.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Administrative
  • Assist the Assistant Director of Aquatics and Ice Rink with all phases of Ice Arena, and Aquatic operations and programs, and personnel.
  • Place work orders, purchase orders, etc. in a timely manner. Order parts, supplies, and equipment as needed.
  • Assist with plans for maintenance and capital improvement projects.
  • Maintain records and completes required reporting. Data entry experience and skills required.
  • Able to demonstrate initiative, outstanding organization skills, and strong leadership skills.
  • Serve on departmental and university committees.
Ice Arena & Aquatic Management
  • Assist in management of Ice Arena, and all swimming pools operations and programs. Work closely with, advises, and coordinates with the Assistant Director of Aquatics and Ice Rink to operate the pools safely and in a fiscally responsible and professional manner.
  • Schedule maintenance around participant usage to improve efficiency and minimize disruption to Recreation Center members, program competitions and practices.
  • Inventories all equipment. Learn use and operating standards of equipment and tools used in ice rink and swimming pool maintenance including driving Zamboni for ice rink maintenance as required.
  • Knowledge of safe use, mixing, and application of commercial products specific to ice rinks and swimming pools.
  • Work independently and be a self-starting problem solver.
Supervision
  • Assist in Supervising approximately 25 - 50 student staff.
  • Skill in recruiting, hiring, supervising, training, monitoring, evaluating and motivating personnel.
  • Assist with payroll for the student staff and oversee trainings and in-services for staff.
  • Interpersonal skill to resolve conflict and work with supervisors, officials, employees, members and the general public.
  • Ability to anticipate personnel, equipment, and material requirements related to ice rink/swimming pool maintenance and repairs.
Special Events
  • Lead, oversee, and be the point person for all internal and external special events/users in the pool and ice rink facilities.
  • Work with colleagues in Recreation Services Events unit and on campus partners to help with planning and to develop goals and outcomes for each event.
Assessment
  • Develops, performs, and evaluates assigned programming.
Campus Involvement
  • Coordinate and/or assist with special events and activities as necessary.
  • Building and strengthening campus involvement will be vital for this position.

What We Can Offer
  • Starting salary is $46,000 - $48,000.

What We Require
  • Bachelor’s Degree in recreation, physical education or related field. Equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.
  • Certified Pool Operator, Aquatic Facility Operator, or similar pool operator’s license or ability to obtain.
  • Current, American Red Cross, Ellis, Star Guard Lifeguard Training and CPR/FA, Emergency Oxygen, and Blood Borne Pathogens certifications or ability to obtain current certifications prior to employment.
What You Will Need
  • Knowledge of recreation facility management, pool, or ice rink operations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Good communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Excellent risk management judgment.
  • Ability to plan, advise and evaluate the work of student employees.
What We Would Like You To Have
  • Master’s Degree prefer degree in recreation or related field
  • Experience developing, implementing, and assessing aquatics or recreation programs, preferably in a university setting.
  • Experience with safety and risk practices as they relate to event and facilities management for recreational and competitive sports in both indoor and outdoor facilities.
  • Four-years progressive experience in Aquatics program management.
  • American Red Cross Certifications in the following areas: Lifeguard Instructor Trainer, Lifeguard Instructor, Lifeguard, CPR & FA Instructor Trainer.
  • Experience operating an ice rink facility, operation of an ice resurfacer, ice edger and skate sharpening machinery.
  • Preferred Certifications: SIRO, IMEO, BAR, CIT.
