The International Student Center (ISC) is committed to fostering and enriching campus life for international students, faculty, and alumni. We offer a wide range of support, particularly those who attend the College on non-immigrant student visas and DACA/Undocumented students. Our responsibility is to develop and implement educational, cultural and social programs that will assure the best possible experience in a United States educational setting for students and a positive integration into the community. In doing so, we also assure college and student compliance with U.S. immigration regulations by fostering accountability in our students. In addition, the ISC works closely with the Office of the Provost and Dean of the Faculty in supporting international scholars, both on temporary assignments and in more permanent, tenure-track positions.

The opportunity:

The position, which reports to the Assistant Dean and Director of International Student Programs and provides direct support and consultation to the Office of the Provost, is responsible for stewarding a comprehensive international student and scholars program, with special focus in supporting immigration compliance requirements. Swarthmore College is authorized by the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and the US Department of State (DOS) to issue non-immigrant visa documentation. The Senior Immigration Specialist is responsible for oversight of all Swarthmore College J1 and F1 initial visas and STEM related requests, DACA/Undocumented students, and works in consultation with immigration counsel to support non-immigrant work visas. In the performance of their duties the Senior Immigration Specialist maintains communications with key campus partners, such as HR, the Provost’s office, and the Office of General Counsel.

Who you are:

The Senior Immigration Specialist is responsible for oversight of all Swarthmore College J1 and F1 initial visas and STEM related requests, DACA/Undocumented students, and works in consultation with immigration counsel and the Office of the Provost to support non-immigrant work visas. In this role, you are expected to be a highly collaborative and enthusiastic team player who is both skilled at focusing on the details and able to see the bigger picture.
  • Bringing with you at least several years of experience with supporting international populations, you are flexible, adaptable and quick to learn while also continuing to remain abreast of the rapidly changing landscape of immigration compliance.
  • You are able to apply broad knowledge and experience in your advising of individual international scholars, faculty, and staff on related complex visa matters and work collaboratively with key campus partners related to this work.
What you bring:
  • A minimum of bachelor’s degree along with 5 years’ experience working with immigration support and/or compliance;
  • Immigration experience or a combination of education and work experience with US immigration regulations.
  • A strong understanding of the issues around immigration populations and an ability to work with a highly diverse population.
