The Department of Visual Arts at Coastal Carolina University, accredited by NASAD (National Association of Schools of Art and Design), is seeking applications for a full-time position at the level of Assistant Professor in Graphic Design to begin August 2022 or January 2023.

 

The successful applicant will teach a wide range of undergraduate graphic design courses extending from first year through senior thesis in our BA (Graphic Design) and BFA (Visual Communication Design) sequences. Courses may include typography, design history, identity systems, web, interaction, UI/UX, environmental, and motion design. Understanding and expression of graphic design should extend beyond technique and application to also include historical context, theory, concept, and process.


Candidates must hold an MFA/terminal degree in graphic design/visual communication, ideally should have undergraduate teaching experience beyond the assistantship level, and preference will be given to candidates with a record of research and professional activity in the field of design. All candidates are expected to contribute to the diversity of our curriculum and community. Salary is nationally competitive.


The Department offers the Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History, Art Studio, and Graphic Design and the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Visual Art and Visual Communication Design as well as a number of minors. This highly collaborative and active department encourages close-knit classroom experiences and promotes experiential learning that highlights faculty areas of expertise and research.
