The Department of English in the College of Arts and Sciences at Loyola University Chicago ( LUC ) invites applications for a full-time non-tenure track, multi-year position in the Writing Program for academic year 2022–2023. We are a congenial, collaborative program, housed on Loyola’s beautiful lakeside campus. This is a lecturer appointment with the possibility of renewal contingent on performance and review. This search is part of a University-wide, multiyear hiring initiative designed to hire outstanding teachers who are reflective of our diverse student body. Of special interest are candidates who can further the University’s efforts to foster diversity, equity, inclusion, and interdisciplinarity.

Full-time faculty in the Writing Program teach four courses per semester. Course assignments are based on the needs of the Department of English and the Writing Program but typically involve first-year writing, advanced writing, and introductory literature courses. Faculty also engage in service at the program and department levels. Qualifications
Candidates will have a doctoral degree in English or a closely related field. We require demonstrated excellence in teaching writing at the college level. Expertise in professional, technical, and/or legal writing would be particularly welcome. Candidates should demonstrate responsiveness toward and understanding of diverse student backgrounds. They must be willing to support the mission of LUC and the goals of a Jesuit Catholic education.

Preferred Qualifications: Three years’ experience teaching first-year writing to a diverse, multilingual student body. Additional desirable areas of expertise include anti-racist pedagogy, social justice rhetoric/writing, public writing, and experiential writing.
