Description:
The Research Engineering Associate will work as part of an integrated field operations crew under the direct supervision of the Field Operations Supervisor. The candidate selected will have demonstrated experience in the civil trades and an ability to perform the physical requirements of the position. The candidate will learn all aspects of the environmental, meteorological, and oceanographic data collection including the installation, maintenance, and repair of stations and systems installed in remote locations along the Gulf Coast.
Responsibilities:
Operations
- Operate University vehicles, vessels, and equipment in support
of field operations in a variety of locations and marine
environments, to include equipment deployed offshore.
- Perform work in the operations lab, including mobilization and
demobilization.
- Perform the installation, maintenance, and operation of
environmental data collection stations in remote locations along
the Gulf Coast.
- Deploy various types of electronic data collection systems,
sensors, and components in and out of the field following specific
guidelines and standards.
- Travel extensively, often outside of business hours and
overnight, by vehicle and/or vessel in marine
environments.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Electronic Data Collection systems
- Setup and test various types of electronic data collection
systems, sensors, and components in and out of the field according
to the manufacture instructions.
- Utilize proprietary software packages during the setup,
testing, and interrogation of various data collection systems and
sensors.
- Troubleshoot and identify issues and corrective actions to
increase, improve, and/or restore sensor/system
operations.
- Perform Quality Control (QC) via the station web pages and
communicate any issues to the team.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
GPS System
- Perform Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) surveys and
process through the National Geodetic Survey (NGS) Online
Positioning User Service (OPUS).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Communication
- Submit required documentation related to system, sensor, setup,
and deployment.
- Submit required documentation related to site visits and field
activities.
- Communicate known issues and/or offer resolutions in writing to
the team.
- Demonstrate teamwork and combability with the CBI team, site
owners, and sponsors.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree.
- Basic computer skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to travel extensively, often outside of normal business
hours, including extended overnight travel.
- Experience working outside in a variety of environments,
extreme weather conditions, and adverse terrain.
- Experience in the repair and maintenance of simple mechanical
systems. Skilled in the use of hand and power tools and following
wiring diagrams and manufacturer assembly instructions.
- Ability to sit, stand, bend, twist, and maneuver in small
spaces, on vessels, and buoys offshore. Ability to walk long
distances (up to 3 miles) while carrying up to 20 pounds. Ability
to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to obtain Transportation Workers Identification
Credentials (TWIC)-within three (3) months of
employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- One (1) year experience in basic civil trades to include,
electrical systems and hand-held power tools.
- One (1) year experience working in a marine
environment.
- One (1) year experience with Geographic Information Systems
(GIS).
- One (1) year experience with environmental data collection
systems and sensors.
- Open water dive certified.
Salary:
- $3,500 - $4,000 monthly ($42,000 - $48,000 annual)
