The San Francisco Conservatory of Music is looking for our next Associate Dean for Student Affairs to oversee and facilitate our students' efforts to integrate their artistic, academic, emotional, and physical well-being by providing a continuum of services in academic and personal development and handling student legal and disciplinary matters.
Job Duties:
As the chief student affairs officer, the incumbent:
- Oversees the development of the Conservatory's residential life program. Assess, develop, and modify residence life policies, procedures, and practices; ensure consistent policy application, enforcement and accountability. Participate in the administrator on-call rotation and respond to emergency and crisis situations.
- Oversees the Conservatory's counseling and physical therapy services. Maintains the student health insurance system through an enrollment/waiver process along with student submission of immunization records. Creates and organizes health and wellness programs/workshops throughout the academic year.
- Addresses and enforces student disciplinary matters and legal concerns; ensure consistent policy application, enforcement and accountability. Oversees the student grievance process.
- Work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students across campus to develop and support retention, progression, and completion initiatives for students; promote academic and student success through residential life and student activities. Oversees community-building rituals such as orientation and graduation. Advises the Student Council and Conservatory Activities Board.
- Oversees assignment and management of student dining plans. Coordinates with dining the vendor on services and operations.
- Serves as a Designated School Official approved by DHS to issue immigration documents and grant immigration benefits to students in F-1 visa status.
- Ensures accommodation of students with disabilities.
- Serve as a Title IX Coordinator and oversee efforts to comply with Conservatory's obligations under Title IX and the Title IX regulations. These responsibilities include coordinating any investigations of complaints received pursuant to Title IX and the implementing regulations.
- Oversees student safety concerns in coordination with Human
Resources, Facilities, and local law enforcement.
- Chairs the Campus Safety Committee
- Completes the annual Clery Act report utilizing data from Security and the SFPD.
- Maintains the emergency mass notification system and contact data through a third-party vendor
- Serve as a contact point for the San Francisco Sexual Assault Response Team
- Participates in multiple committees, including but not limited to the Academic Affairs Committee (ex officio)
- Performs other duties as required
- Master's Degree in Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration or related field; extensive working knowledge of college student housing and residential life functions, education trends and philosophies, student development theory, federal requirements and safety codes related to housing, and student conduct and due process.
- Solid understanding concerning legal issues involving student academic affairs and housing
- Experience assessing student counseling needs
- Ability to balance student needs with the interests of the institution
- Demonstrated experience with and the ability to interact with diverse constituents; strong interpersonal/human relations skills as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills; must be diplomatic, discreet, tactful yet firm, and flexible; ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise excellent judgment and decision-making skills.
- Proven record of student staff supervision and motivation.
- Superior organization and planning skills; ability to multitask and work well in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions. Strong attention to detail.
- Knowledge of Title IX, VAWA, Clery Act, FERPA, and other relevant laws. Able to explain complex federal regulations as they apply to F-1 student visa holders and other immigration categories, to students and Conservatory leadership.
- Proficiency in Google Apps, Microsoft Word, and Excel required; knowledge of PowerCampus systems a plus.
