Job Description Summary

Wentworth Institute of Technology is seeking applicants interested in joining the Wentworth community as an Associate General Counsel.

As a member of the President’s Office at Wentworth, the Associate General Counsel will report directly to the General Counsel.

In this full-time role, with flexibility of a hybrid schedule, the Associate General Counsel will:
  • Maintain a current understanding of the local, state, and federal laws and regulations that apply to the University, interpret the application of such laws and regulations, and also educate other members of the University community about them.
  • Advise senior leaders on areas of legal risk and exposure, and how to best manage that risk with still achieving the strategic priorities of the institution.
  • Develop and provide training on legal and compliance issues that impact the University.
  • Support and contribute to the University’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Provide compliance based trainings to University partners.
  • Draft, review, negotiate, and offer advice regarding University contracts in a manner that balances the University’s legal interests while also promoting the strategic and business objectives of the institution. Contract review may include areas such as: procurement, personal services, licensing, academic partnerships, corporate sponsorships, consulting agreement, and agreements related to intellectual property.
  • Address other legal matters and perform other duties as assigned by the General Counsel, including managing internal investigations when the need arises.

J.D. degree from an accredited law school
4-8 years of relevant experience with either a law firm, in-house legal department or related experience

Advertised Preferred Qualifications

· 8+ years relevant experience with either a law firm, in-house legal department or related experience.
· Experience drafting policies and procedures.
· Experience conducting training on complex legal issues.
· Experience supporting compliance with state and federal law compliance (ex. FERPA, FMLA, Title IX, ADA, Clery Act, SEVIS, Data Breach and other relevant federal and state laws.
