Job Summary/Basic Function
The School of Engineering at Liberty University invites applicants for a position at the rank of Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Industrial and Systems Engineering. Areas of research interest include (but are not limited to): Model-based systems engineering; Systems design, integration, and architecting; System performance, analysis, improvement, and optimization; Systems modeling and simulation; Complex systems and socio-technological systems, Human product/work environment/machine interaction; Human culture/behavior/performance modeling; Human information processing and decision making. Candidates in other areas will also be considered. Successful candidates will be expected to develop internationally-recognized, externally-funded, sustainable research programs and to make significant contributions to the department’s teaching and service responsibilities.
The Liberty University School of Engineering ( LUSOE ) comprises five departments (Civil, Computer, Electrical, Industrial and Systems, and Mechanical) and a forthcoming Computational Science and Engineering Department being a virtual department in which faculty from the other departments can partake of Computational Science and Engineering. The LUSOE offers an ABET -accredited undergraduate program as well as graduate studies leading to M.S. and Ph.D. degrees. In addition, LUSOE offers undergraduate, M.S., and Ph.D. distance learning programs as well as residential programs. The LUSOE is just starting to grow as LU has invested in growing the engineering program.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in engineering or a closely aligned field. Candidates are expected to have demonstrated the ability to conduct research at the highest level and to have a record of, or the promise for, outstanding teaching, supervision of students, and service to the LUSOE .
Applicants must apply online by submitting a cover letter, curriculum vitae, names and contact information for at least three professional references, and one page summaries for each of their research, teaching, and service plans. Faculty members are expected to conduct state-of-the-art research, teach undergraduate and/or graduate level courses, and serve the LUSOE . Candidates will also help teach engineering laboratory courses and senior capstone courses as needed.
Faculty will participate in the process of developing undergraduate engineering curriculum.
Minimum Qualifications
The candidate must hold a Master’s degree in industrial and systems engineering.
In addition, a passion for teaching is expected for appointment to a faculty position. Successful candidates will be expected to conduct research, teach undergraduate classes, and contribute to the Department’s service mission.
Applicants must demonstrate a personal faith commitment to the University’s evangelical Christian purpose.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates having a Ph.D. degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering.
In addition, an exemplary record of scholarship, external research support, and teaching is expected for appointment to a faculty position.
Work Hours
Typically 40 hours per week for the 10 months of the contract
