Teaching & Learning Librarian - (LIB000070)

The University of Houston Libraries seeks a Teaching and Learning Librarian to significantly contribute to the development, implementation, and assessment of information literacy education at the University of Houston. Reporting to the Head of Teaching and Learning, the librarian will further the department’s efforts towards inclusive, learner-centered pedagogy through targeted curricular and co-curricular instruction. The Teaching and Learning Department is focused on teaching transferable information literacy concepts and abilities that are essential to critical inquiry.

As a member of the Teaching and Learning Department, the librarian will develop and sustain collaborative partnerships with instructors to meaningfully integrate information literacy into the undergraduate and graduate curriculum. This includes teaching (both face-to-face and online); creating lesson plans, learning activities, and assignments; and developing online instructional materials such as asynchronous lessons, videos, and research guides. The librarian will also support the department’s co-curricular engagement efforts and partnerships with campus organizations. The librarian will provide one-on-one research consultations for graduate and undergraduate students and faculty, online and in person (note that the UH Libraries does not have a reference desk). The librarian will create and lead professional development for librarians and instructors on teaching and information literacy.

The Teaching and Learning Department is highly collaborative, and the librarian will work closely with colleagues in and out of the library on departmental projects and initiatives. The Teaching and Learning Librarian will have opportunities for mentorship and training in job responsibilities and will have the opportunity to build skills for leading programs and initiatives.

The Teaching and Learning Librarian is a librarian position. Librarians hold academic rank pursuant to the University of Houston Librarians’ Bylaws Document. They are expected to develop a record of service, scholarship, and professional development.

Salary: $63,500 to $65,000 expected hiring range, depending on qualifications. Comprehensive benefits package; choice of retirement programs including TIAA; tax-deferred annuity program available; release time to take a class up to 3 hours/week; no state or local income tax.

Qualifications :

Required:

• Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program
• Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues in and out of the library
• Excellent communication skills
• Interest, coursework, or experience in teaching information literacy
• Engagement with the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy in Higher Education

Preferred:

• Classroom teaching experience
• Aptitude for learning new technologies
• Knowledge of pedagogical approaches or learning theory
