The Department of Medicine, Division of Pulmonary is seeking a Clinical Nurse to work collaboratively as a member of Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) Team to care for patients with ILD. The Clinical Nurse will work under the supervision of an attending ILD physician who is a member of the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine in the Department of Medicine. The position will also work collaboratively with resident physicians, and pulmonary fellows.

The Clinical Nurse responsibilities will include:

Clinical

• Monitor and follow-up on diagnostic test results, prescriptions, medical equipment, insurance requirements and documentation needs for patients for the 500+ patients in the ILD program.

• Telephone triage for patient problems and response to therapy and communicate to the program physicians.

• Educate patients on the ILD inpatient and outpatient service about the disease process and current and investigational therapies.

• Educate and train hospital nurses and house staff about care of patients with advanced ILD.

• Round on inpatient service with the Pulmonary consult service when needed.

• Screen medical records and facilitate scheduling of new referrals to the ILD Clinic.

• Facilitate and obtain insurance authorization for medical therapy, diagnostic testing and hospital admission.

• Coordinate and develop relationships with industry representatives.

• Coordination and Organization of the Johns Hopkins Pulmonary ILD Patient Support Group.

Research

• Responsible for supervising the research activities for the ILD Program

• Assist with coordination of industry and internal ILD clinical trials, including identifying subjects, IRB submission, regulatory documentation and protocol required study visits and testing.

• Coordinate and assist with sample and data collection and data entry for databases and clinical trials being done in the ILD Program.

Administrative

• Acts as a liaison between referring physicians and the ILD Program

• Acts as a liaison between hospital staff, including nurses, physicians and other departments, pulmonary division fellows and the ILD Program


Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of research methodology

• Working knowledge of computers including Microsoft Office software

• Must be able to independently assimilate and evaluate clinical data

• Strong interpersonal, and effective verbal and written communication skills

• Analytical skills to develop goals, performance objectives, and action plans

• Ability to demonstrate good clinical judgment in patient management and assume responsibility for decisions, consequences and results having an impact on people in the workplace, patient care and potential or actual research subjects.



Minimum Qualifications
  • Individual must be a registered nurse, licensed in the State of Maryland or state where practicing. Bachelor's degree in nursing or related discipline preferred.
  • Acceptable completion of the JHH credentialing process is required within two weeks of start date.
  • Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross CPR certification required. Must maintain current licensure and certification during duration of employment.

• Pulmonary medicine or program coordination experience
