 (12-month, Non-tenure Track)

Samford University's School of Public Health invites applicants interested in serving in a Christian university environment to apply for the position of Director of Field Education in the Department of Social Work. This full­ time, non-tenure track position is a 12-month appointment at the rank of Instructor in the graduate program with a Fall 2022 start date. This position will have faculty and leadership responsibilities including directing the field program and teaching up to 15 credit hours per year online and/or face-to-face. The position also includes student mentorship, service, course development and scholarship. The department has an advanced clinical concentration which focuses on micro-level practice, counseling and psychotherapy with individuals and families. The Council on Social Work Education accredited the Master of Social Work program in 2017 as a face to face program and approved the addition of a fully online MSW program in 2019.

Qualified candidates will hold a master's degree in social work from an institutionally accredited university and a minimum of three years post-masters experience in a clinical setting or private practice. Current Alabama State License {LICSW, PIP preferred) or license eligible.

This position will:

  • Oversee and monitor student field placement
  • Oversee and monitor the performance of field placement agencies, review all affiliation agreements, assure compliance, coordinate the renewal of said agreements, make site visits to field placement agencies, and develop new field agency placement sites
  • Develop and implement field related policies
  • Actively participate in the design of the Social Work Program curriculum, the evaluation procedures of the Program, and the development of academic policies
  • Oversee the implementation and quality of field orientation and training for students, agencies, field liaisons, and field instructors
  • Maintain current data regarding the status of students in field placement, as well as ensure the consistent monitoring of all records of students in field education to support compliance with Program, agency procedures, and recording standards
  • Manage tracking software and generate reports as needed
  • Oversee the timely and accurate preparation and updating of field educational manuals, forms, and procedures as approved by the Social Work Program faculty
  • Coordinate field seminar including syllabus management and maintaining/updating LMS course shells
  • Teach up to 15 credit hours per academic year in the social work curriculum

 

Ideal candidates will be able to teach courses across the curriculum both face to face or online, design and develop innovative online instruction, provide mentorship for students, coordinate and participate in interprofessional simulation and engage in service at the university, local and state level. A commitment to academic excellence and the ability to work effectively with faculty, students and colleagues is expected.

The College of Health Sciences includes four schools: Moffett & Sanders School of Nursing, McWhorter School of Pharmacy, School of Health Professions, and School of Public Health. The college offers multiple degree programs and majors within the health sciences with an interprofessional education focus that reflects today's team approach to professional practice.
