Job Description:

The Department of Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level.  Candidates should have a strong research record of publication in bacteriophages biology and applications in foods and the clinical setting, bacterial resistance, as well as a background in the study of bacterial interaction in the intestine.  This position requires the continuous submission of research proposals for extramural funding. Candidates are also required to lead and develop a research program on the therapeutic implication of bacteriophages in treating host against infection with multidrug-resistant organisms among immunocompromised patients.  The candidate will have many opportunities for collaborative research throughout UF, in agreement with institutional strategies adopted by the University of Florida to foster interdisciplinary research in cancer and epigenetics. Successful candidates will be expected to establish and maintain an energetic, independent research program and participate in the teaching of graduate and medical students.

Minimum Requirements:

Doctoral degree in microbiology or related field

Preferred Qualifications:
  • A doctoral degree in microbiology with a minimum of three years of postdoctoral research experience.
  • Extensive experience with bacteriophage isolation, characterization, and purification, as well as bacteriophage application in vivo. Other experience involve molecular biology techniques including bacteriophage nucleic acid extraction and sequencing, PCR, Western Blot, RNA-seq, as well as flow cytometric analysis.
  • Familiarity with bioinformatic tools.
  • A record of verifiable and published research in microbiology, infectious disease, immunology, and cancer, as well as the potential for obtaining extramural funding.
  • Experience working with animal models, preferably mice.
