Department Summary
The Office of the President is the chief executive office for the University of Oregon. The office consists of the president, chief of staff, and several high-level executive and administrative support positions. The office staff works to provide efficient and responsible operation of the president's office in support of the president's initiatives and priorities in service to the students, staff, and faculty, as well as the Board of Trustees and external partners of the institution.
Position Summary
The Senate Secretary and Advisor to the President (SSAP) reports directly to the Chief of Staff and Senior Advisor to the President. This position serves dually as the executive coordinator of the Statutory Faculty and administrative liaison for the Faculty Senate, and as the advisor to the President facilitating work in line with the President's and university's objectives and initiatives.
In the role of Senate Secretary, the SSAP manages meetings of the Senate Administrative Group, oversees and supports Senate committees, serves as Senate records steward, and oversees the administration and coordination of the office of the University Senate, including supervision of the Senate Executive Coordinator.
As the advisor to the President, the SSAP performs research and engages in project management in support of presidential and university objectives; serves as liaison or representative for the President to various university work groups, task forces, and committees; and provides strategic staff support to the President and other administrative leaders both internally and externally on behalf of the university.
Minimum Requirements - Bachelor's degree
- Two years' experience working with and interpreting
organizational policies and procedures
- Two years' work experience in higher education
- Two years' experience working collaboratively with a team
Professional Competencies - Demonstrated expertise in working effectively with individuals
from diverse socioeconomic, racial, and ethnic
backgrounds
- Strong writing and verbal communication skills; adept at
facilitating conversations and engaging all stakeholders
- Highly effective interpersonal skills and demonstrated
expertise in working effectively with faculty, staff, and students
from diverse backgrounds and cultures
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and shifting
priorities
- Demonstrated ability to work with time-sensitive
issues/projects and meet strict deadlines
- Demonstrated ability to effectively represent senior leaders
and confidential matters
Preferred Qualifications - Experience working with and representing senior administrative
leaders at a college, university or university system
- Graduate degree in a relevant field
- Familiarity with parliamentary procedures according to Robert's
Rules of Order
