PROGRAM SUMMARY:The CSUMB College Corps is part of a statewide initiative to support the next generation of leaders while reducing the cost of college for low to modest income students and students of color. Our goal is to develop, mentor, train, and inspire future transformative community leaders through a year of service and mentorship. This program will support 60 -70 College Corps Fellows who will contribute 450 hours over an academic year in exchange for $10,000 in educational support. Most Fellows will work in K12 settings to support youth in civic engagement, academic support, and social emotional growth. Building on the model of service learning at CSUMB, the College Corps program seeks to develop future community leaders who: understand their own identities; act with compassion and cultural competence; analyze complex social issues; and develop the collaborative skills to work toward equity.
POSITION SUMMARY:Under the direction of the Principal Investigators, the College Corps Coordinator is responsible for the planning and administration of the CSUMB College Corps program. During the planning phase, this position is responsible for recruiting and selecting the Fellows, developing the program, revising the budget, creating partnerships, and developing the processes and procedures for the program. They are responsible for fiscal management, contract management, community partner management, Fellow support (on-boarding, training, mentoring), collaboration with university partners, and representing the College Corps program at the university, community, and state levels.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include. but are not limited to. the following:
  • Coordinate and develop the programs of the CSUMB College Corps
  • Supervise College Corps staff, including AmeriCorps VIPs, student staff, and/or College Corps mentors
  • Manage and coordinate the recruitment, selection, supervision, and evaluation of the College Corps Fellows
  • Provide mentorship of 30 - 35 College Corps Fellows, providing one on one meetings at least three times per semester
  • Co-lead the program development and planning phase of the project, alongside faculty and community partners
  • Collaborate with and provide support for College Corps faculty, school site administrators, counselors, teachers, and school site coordinators at the school sites
  • Plan and implement training for College Fellows, including orientation, site specific training, professional development, reflection activities, and closure activities
  • Recommend and implement modification to systems, policies, and procedures regarding College Corps activities and services in the grant and at the school site.
  • Perform administrative duties including tracking Fellows' hours, budget management, coordinating onboard processes including background checks and TB testing, facilitating subcontracts with partners, payments to faculty and consultants
  • Along with the school districts, develop and implement evaluation measures to assess the impact of the program using the guidelines of California Volunteers, AmeriCorps, and CSUMB specific measures
  • Oversee and implement group engagement processes for College Corps Fellows including social media, email, regular meetings, engagement on MyRaft
  • Support Fellows in planning conferences and developing workshops
  • Coordinate with Consortium member campuses about regional conferences
  • Coordinate the documentation of files of all correspondence, reports, procedures, and presentations related to the College Corps program
  • Develop outreach materials, including newsletters and a social media strategy
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with individuals and groups of varying ages and cultural backgrounds to disseminate information, resolve problems, and clarify solutions
  • Handle sensitive and/or confidential documents and information where judgment and discretion are essential.
  • Collaborate with Service Learning Institute activities and programs by attending staff meetings, participating in outreach events, and contributing to the programs of the Institute
  • Represent the CSUMB College Corps program at university functions and at statewide and national meetings
  • Establish procedures and policies with community partners
  • Supervise AmeriCorps VIP members, including holding regular meetings, evaluation, completion of AmeriCorps documents
  • Develop and maintain community partnerships with K12 districts and other community partners
  • Develop training for K12 supervisors on timesheets and evaluations
  • Oversee, supervise, and evaluate the school site teams in two school districts to develop and implement a smoothly functioning process
  • Establish procedures and policies for coordinating with University Corporation, Financial Aid, Advising, Student Leadership in Service Learning Program, Service Learning Institute, CSUMB service learning faculty, Basic Needs, and other university partners
  • Establish procedures for background checks for AmeriCorps, TB tests, mileage reimbursements, stipend dispersal
  • Liaison with CSUMB service learning College Corps faculty about evaluation, course content, Fellow progress, training
  • Supervise peer mentors
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Work Location: 70% main campus, 30% from home

  • Ability to determine appropriate courses of action and proper techniques to utilize while engaged in sensitive situations
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, staff, student, and community organizations, and other private and public agencies
  • Ability to work effectively and interdependently in a diverse environment
  • Ability to coordinate and oversee groups of students especially on community visits, excursions, or conference travel

Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college
  • Two years of professional level experience in student success, community outreach, and/or service learning
  • Working experience with first-generation, low-income youth and/or college students
  • A Master’s degree or advanced coursework in Education, Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Ethnic Studies, or directly related field may be substituted for two (2) years of the required experience.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to interact successfully with a variety of constituencies including K12 community partners, faculty, and college personnel.

  • Proven experience with service learning, experiential education, and/or civic engagement
  • A working knowledge of best practices in student-oriented success and mentorship

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources. Classification: Grade 4, Staff. The annual salary range for this position is $62,400-$65,000. This is an exempt position and as such is not eligible for the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
