President

The College of Saint Mary (Omaha, NE), one of the nation’s most distinct Catholic institutions, invites applications, expressions of interest, and nominations of candidates in its search for the next president.

Since its founding in 1923, College of Saint Mary (CSM) has been stewarded by the Sisters of Mercy. The College offers undergraduate degrees for women in more than 35 majors in fields such as healthcare, education, business, and the liberal arts and sciences. CSM serves a population of over 1,000 traditional and nontraditional students. Graduate programs, which are open to all, include doctoral programs in education, occupational therapy, physical therapy, master’s programs in teaching, physician assistant studies, kinesiology and exercise science, and organizational leadership. College of Saint Mary students are supported by 85 full-time faculty, 72 adjunct faculty, and a staff of 116 professionals who embrace the College’s mission. The 9:1 student-to-faculty ratio ensures that students have an individualized educational experience at the College that promotes the achievement of their goals.

The College’s endowment is valued at $28 million as of March 31, 2022. Additionally, the operating budget for the 2022-2023 fiscal year is $28 million. In 2017, CSM reduced undergraduate tuition by $10,000, which reduced student borrowing by 33 percent over the last few years. This was accomplished by increasing donor support and fielding new graduate programs that generate additional revenue. Since the tuition reset in fall 2017, the average annual borrowings of full-time undergraduates has decreased by 43 percent.

College of Saint Mary is located in the heart of Omaha, Nebraska, a thriving four-season city on the Missouri River. From one of the most-visited zoos in the world to a world-class performing arts center and the NCAA Men’s College World Series, Omaha offers something for everyone. In 2021, Livability ranked Omaha 13th in the Top 100 Best Places to Live in America. College of Saint Mary’s beautiful campus boasts sprawling green space while still compact enough for students to navigate conveniently and move from class to class in a timely manner. College of Saint Mary’s campus also hosts Mothers Living & Learning, a student housing option for single mothers and their children, and the new $18 million state-of-the-art Lied Fitness Center Fieldhouse, which opened in August 2021.

College of Saint Mary will celebrate its 100-year anniversary in 2023-24. The next president of College of Saint Mary will join the institution at a time of palpable momentum with many points of celebration. The president will have the opportunity to shape a vision for the future of CSM that builds on its deep commitment to academic excellence and its uncompromising commitment to social justice rooted it its Sisters of Mercy and Catholic foundations. College of Saint Mary seeks a president who embraces its distinctive mission and core values, embodies a courageous spirit, demonstrates broad intellectual curiosity, possesses significant administrative experience, and can attract new resources to the College. The candidate of choice will be a servant leader in the Catholic tradition with a highly relational approach, outstanding communication skills, humility, authenticity, self-confidence, a strong work ethic, and a clear understanding of higher education. While the Search Committee is eager to consider many possible pathways to the presidency, candidates possessing a terminal degree will be preferred.
