Job Description Summary

This position will be responsible for leadership in the functions and oversight of the Southern Management Leadership Program, including the screening and selection of applicants, student intake and advising, budget management, outreach and marketing, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Two years full-time or equivalent experience in the professional area; 5 years preferred
  • Masters degree preferred
  • Minimum of two years’ supervisory experience
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and problem-solving skill
  • Good judgment, initiative and ability to work independently as well as a member of a team
  • Ability to organize resources and accept responsibility for completing an assignment with minimal supervision
  • Ability to communicate with diverse populations
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Detail-oriented and possesses strong technical skills
  • Editing and proofreading skills
  • Ability to work with an integrated data system, Colleague preferred
  • Previous experience and ability to effectively and consistently lead and motivate others

Criteria

CRITERIA : The following criteria, which are not the sole criteria used in the final hiring decision, will be used to review the applications of those persons who meet the stated minimum qualifications and to select those qualified applicants who will be interviewed. Other information and observations made during the interview process may be considered in the selection process. A Resume/CV and cover letter are required with the application. ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Oversee, supervise, plan and evaluate the Southern Management Leadership Program
  • Manage and supervise, delegate tasks, coach, counsel and evaluate the work of staff assigned to the program
  • Plan and manage the budget
  • Communicate regularly with campus partners, including the Professional Studies and Community Education Division, the Business and Entrepreneurship Department, Institutional Advancement, Financial Aid, Records and Registration, etc.
  • Communicate and collaborate regularly with the Hillman family and Southern Management Corporation, and program directors at Montgomery College and the University of Maryland College Park
  • Screen, interview and select program applicants
  • Participate in and alternately host Advisory Committee meetings
  • Plan, prepare and conduct/oversee meetings, events and activities for students
  • Manage student intake into the program
  • Advise students and manage student progress
  • Manage and oversee student internships
  • Develop marketing and recruiting materials for the program
  • Conduct periodic internal audits of program and student files
  • Network with other team members, other campus offices, other community colleges and the general community to accomplish work objectives.
  • Actively participate in professional development and on appropriate committees, task forces, professional associations and organizations at the campus, state, regional and national levels.
  • Promote the college’s capabilities and services for the purpose of engagement and good will and to increase the overall knowledge of Prince George’s Community College
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Job Requirements

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle, or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to a, personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. No significant climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be available to work Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Work schedule subject to change based on the needs of the department.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written standard English.
  • As required by the 1986 Immigration Act, be prepared to present acceptable documentation showing your identity and that you are a U.S. citizen or an alien who is authorized to work.
  • A limited background investigation will be conducted prior to offer of employment. A signed authorization for release of personal information will be required if selected for an interview.
