Position Title & Description: Assistant Professor - Breeding and Genetics Research and Teaching. This is a nine-month, tenure track or tenured appointment (80% Research, 20% Teaching) position in the Department of Animal and Dairy Science (ADS, ads.caes.uga.edu) in the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences at the University of Georgia (UGA). The position will be located at the UGA Athens Campus.

Major Responsibilities: This is a nine-month academic-year tenure track position with an 80% Research and 20% Instructional appointment. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing an extramurally funded research program in theoretical and applied quantitative genetics with an emphasis on livestock improvement. Research responsibilities may include but are not limited to the development of theoretical, applied, and computational methods and tools relevant to population and quantitative genetics, genetic evaluation, and genomic selection. Teaching responsibilities will include an undergraduate course in animal breeding/genetics and a graduate-level quantitative/molecular genetics or programming techniques course.

This position will work with state-of-the-art dairy facilities with the capabilities of collecting sensor and robotic data. The new hire is expected to extensively collaborate with colleagues within the Department, College, and University.

Qualifications: Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in animal breeding, quantitative genetics/genomics, or closely related fields. A proven record of excellence in the theoretical and computational aspects of quantitative genetics/genomics with application to livestock improvement is expected. The ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with colleagues is essential. Post-doctoral experience that includes experience with large data sets including genomics is desirable.
