The Presbyterian College School of Pharmacy (PCSP) has achieved exceptional credentials since its establishment in 2010, including first-time pass rates on licensure exams that exceed state and national averages, competitive match rates for post-graduate training, and competitive research funding. Accomplished faculty, dedicated staff, and expert preceptors emphasize the importance of team-based care, service to others, and community engagement while equipping our student pharmacists to address the health care needs of a diverse and dynamic population. 

Presbyterian College is seeking a dynamic and visionary Dean for its School of Pharmacy. The Dean will manage the academic program of PCSP, ensure full enrollment through intentional and effective recruiting and retention efforts as the lead recruiter of students and faculty, and serve as the School’s chief operating officer.

The Dean will report to the Provost, serve as ex officio on the graduate subcommittee of the Board of Trustees, and be a key member of the Deans and Directors Council.

The successful candidate will:

  • Possess an earned doctorate in pharmacy (PharmD) or in a related field (PhD);
  • Have a detailed understanding of pharmacy and the landscape of health care in the United States;
  • Be the leader for effective recruitment and retention strategies to accomplish full enrollment, including maintaining a strong pipeline with pre-pharmacy and other similar programs at the College and beyond;
  • Be responsible for developing innovative revenue streams;
  • Be an effective communicator in all modalities;
  • Be a strong leader capable of inspiring and empowering PCSP faculty and staff;
  • Provide expert guidance regarding ACPE accreditation;
  • Value and embrace justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion;
  • Purposefully and strategically expand and deepen local, regional and national engagement to recruit prospective students to attend PCSP;
  • Collaborate with campus and external constituencies, including Arts & Sciences and other graduate programs, to establish productive partnerships for the School;
  • Be responsible for ensuring growth of the doctor of pharmacy program, including innovative programs and other degrees;
  • Be responsible for the program’s continuing commitment to serve the surrounding community;
  • Be able to execute a plan and take decisive actions to deliver results;
  • Partner with the provost to ensure compliance with College policy, and attainment of College goals;
  • Evaluate, hire, empower, and mentor PCSP administrators;
  • Have visibility and engagement with stakeholders, both on campus and externally;
  • Report on the enrollment, overall strategy, budget, and hiring of faculty to the Board of Trustees and related committees;
  • Plan and oversee all aspects of PCSP strategic planning and collaborate on College-wide strategic planning efforts;
  • Establish an effective partnership with the president and vice president for advancement to shape a strong philanthropic message for the School;
  • Serve as PC’s primary liaison to the regional healthcare community and schools of pharmacy in South Carolina;
  • Remain knowledgeable of the issues facing higher education in general and schools of pharmacy in particular.

 

Qualified candidates are:

  • Successful with recruitment and retention of students to maintain full enrollments;
  • Accomplished leaders with demonstrated capacity to innovate;
  • Experienced administrators with a demonstrated record of outstanding service, teaching and scholarship;
  • Skilled, with a minimum of five years of senior administrative experience at an accredited school or college of pharmacy;
  • Extraordinarily, highly collaborative; and
  • Academic entrepreneurs with a deep commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion.

 

Ideal candidates possess:

  • A proven track record of successful management of a growing academic program;
  • Expertise to create metrics-driven analysis of the curriculum and faculty work;
  • Significant experience leading all aspects of a complex team, including managing, mentoring, motivating, retaining, and evaluating staff;
  • Substantial experience in higher education with a record of achievement worthy of an appointment at the full professor rank;
  • Experience in generating philanthropic support for a graduate program;
  • Superior writing skills and other modes of communication; and
  • In keeping with the College’s mission, have the desire and commitment to develop strong partnerships and oversee impactful service opportunities for students, faculty and staff.
