Official Title: Recreation Program Supervisor Business Title: Coordinator of Fitness Services Employment Class: Non-instructional Academic Staff FTE: 1.0 Compensation: $42,600 FLSA Status: Exempt Terms of Employment: 12 Month, Annual, Fixed-Term Renewable Position Summary: Under the general supervision of the Assistant Director of Programs the Coordinator of Fitness Services provides leadership for a dynamic and comprehensive fitness program which includes: group fitness, personal training, fitness/wellness programming, fitness assessments/screenings, weight room orientations, and special events. The coordinator actively creates learning environments that empower student employees to create safe, inclusive and accessible recreational opportunities. The primary purpose of this position is to directly interact with students and enhance their academic learning experience outside of the classroom setting. The position coordinates fitness programs/services, fitness staff scheduling, staff learning outcomes and assessment and evaluation of the fitness program. Evening, weekend and holiday work is required. Responsibilities

Group Exercise: Develop, implement, and oversee policies and procedures for group exercise (35%)
  • Recruit, hire, train, schedule, approve payroll, and supervise all student staff/LTEs within fitness programs
  • Develop, implement, evaluate, and assess all aspects of the group exercise program
  • Communicate fitness policies and procedures; make recommendations for improvements as needed
  • Keep abreast of new developments in the group exercise program to provide new programs and activities to meet student needs
  • Maintain certification records and prepare student use reports
Personal Training: Develop, implement, and oversee policies and procedures for personal training program (35%)
  • Recruit, hire, train schedule, payroll, and supervise all student personal trainers
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate all aspects of personal fitness training
  • Keep abreast of new developments in personal training to provide new programs and activities to meet student needs
  • Maintain certification records and prepare student use reports
Special Events: Work with Assistant Director of Programs to develop, implement, and oversee policies and procedures for special event programs (15%)
  • Develop, implement, evaluate and assess all aspects of the departmental special event program
  • Keep abreast of new developments in recreational sports special events to provide new programs and activities to meet student needs
Departmental Support Additional Areas (15%)
  • Based on experience and interests, support departmental mission through one/more of the following areas: social media; Graphic Design; Massage Therapy Program; Risk Management; Student Leadership, Development and Recognition; Assessment
  • Other duties/tasks as assigned based on departmental need and professional development.

Qualifications Required:

A Bachelor’s degree in Fitness Management, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Physical Education, Recreation, Sport Management, or related field

One year of professional experience in the organization and administration of fitness programming and group fitness instruction (two years of Graduate Assistant experience will qualify)

Excellent interpersonal skills, and commitment to customer service

Ability to engage and inspire student leadership through effective mentoring and training

Ability to work within unit, campus, system, state, and federal policy

Demonstrated commitment to the ideals of Inclusive Excellence and those students who are traditionally underrepresented

Preferred:

A Master’s degree in Fitness Management, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Physical Education, Recreation, Sport Management, or related field

Experience with management, development and supervision of fitness programs in higher education recreation

Nationally recognized certification in Group Fitness and/or Personal Training
