Purpose:
Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is the largest US Department of Energy science and energy laboratory, conducting basic and applied research to deliver transformative solutions to compelling problems in energy and security. The Office of Research Excellence (ORE) seeks to hire a Professional Recognition and Awards Lead to facilitate external and internal recognition of ORNL staff. We are looking for an individual with excellent communications skills that is passionate about seeing others rewarded for their impact and furthering the reputation of individuals and the institution. In this position, you will report to the ORE Director and collaborate with S&T managers and staff.
Major Duties/Responsibilities
- Implement and manage a framework and system to identify staff for specific awards
- Work with staff to create impactful award nominations
- Provide tools for staff to understand path to recognition and create impactful nominations
- Promote staff participation in professional societies
- Coordinate ORNL’s responses for nomination requests from the Department of Energy (e.g., Distinguished Scientist Fellow, E. O. Lawrence Award)
- Manage process for UT-B Awards Night and R&D100 award nominations
- Maintain professional recognition web site, resources, and reporting systems
- Ensure consistent use of recognition reporting system, including data cleanup
- Ensure continuous improvement of the program
- Provide professional recognition and awards information, data, and analysis for ORNL reports and presentations
- Demonstrate commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through actions
Qualification Required:
A Bachelor’s degree in science-related field or science communications and 4-6 years of experience. Excellent writing and verbal communications skills, attention to detail and deadlines, and ability to build relationships/collaborations.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience creating award nominations for staff in a scientific organization or DOE facility. Demonstrated ability to conceive, plan, and deliver projects. The candidate should be able to work – both independently and with all levels of management, researchers, and staff – in a team environment, and have strong skills in solving problems and development in implementing solutions. Demonstrated expertise in SharePoint and other Microsoft products.
