Essential Functions (Job Duties)
With the assistance of the Principal Investigator, collaborates with PI to develop long range scientific plans for funded research. Provide leadership in the design and management of scientific research. Assists the Principal Investigator in designing protocols and supervising technical staff to complete research. Using their extensive research experience, the Research Scientist will conduct independent research which may result in scholarly publications. Perform technical presentations at scientific conferences. Complete technical laboratory and/or
field experimental procedures and help maintain the laboratory.

Independently develop research projects in the area of immunology based on planned objectives. Collaborate with PI to develop long-range scientific plans for funded studies and coordinate personnel responsibilities.

Perform scientific techniques or research protocols. Assist the Principal Investigator in designing and performing protocols. Design and perform experiments. Collect and log experimental data. Participate in implementing research objectives, ensuring compliance with all legal, regulatory and protocol guidelines. Assist other lab members with experiments as required. . Performance of other cellular and molecular biology techniques such as plasmid preparations, RNA and protein isolation, RT-PCR, qPCR, western blot analysis, immunohistochemistry, and immunoprecipitation

Evaluate and perform preliminary analysis of the data using graphs, charts or tables to highlight the key points of the research results collected in accordance with the research protocols as stipulated.

Prepare and present presentations regarding research project results for professional, scientific and academic conferences. Summarize and organize data results for submittal to academic and scholarly, peer-reviewed journals. Write scientific manuscripts and other documents for publication. Fact-check, proofread, and edit research documents to ensure accuracy.

Maintain the laboratory work areas including routine maintenance on laboratory equipment as required. Order and organize required research supplies and records. Maintain cleanliness and organization of work station.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Doctorate degree
Requires advanced knowledge predominantly intellectual in character in a field of science or learning acquired by a prolonged course of specialized intellectual instruction. Experience in Immunology related research. Strong background in flow cytometry and other techniques related to the study of immune responses.

Experience (minimum 2 years of job-related experience)
Experience performing basic research techniques, preferred. Must have distinguished themselves in research.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to work independently. Ability to secure grants and funding for research. Ability to analyze, summarize and interpret research findings in reports and communicate results. Knowledge of scientific integrity principles. Excellent time management and organization skills. Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work with others in a collaborative environment. Microsoft office software skills.

Collaborates with PI to develop long-range scientific plans for funded studies and coordinate personnel responsibilities.
Performance of in vitro and in vivo studies in mice with minimal supervision (intra-peritoneal and intra-venous injections; breeding and genotyping; embryo transfer; intra-ocular bleeding procedures, survival surgeries).
Strong background in flow cytometry and other techniques related to the study of immune responses.
Performance of other cellular and molecular biology techniques such as plasmid preparations, RNA and protein isolation, RT-PCR, qPCR, western blot analysis, immunohistochemistry, and immunoprecipitation.
Solves complex methodology, protocol, procedural and research problems through design of techniques, procedures, and policies that will achieve research goals.
Training and supervision of post-doctoral fellows and students.
Coordination of Institutional Regulatory Board documents and protocols.
Purchasing and organization of lab supplies.
Assures maintenance of equipment and data storage. Excellent written and verbal communication and organizational skills
Ability and confidence to work independently.

Preferred Qualifications
A PhD and at least two years related work experience in the area of immunology.
